    Gator Softball preseason ranked #2
    [IMG]

There are 9 SEC teams in the preseason top 25.

Oklahoma, coming off a 2017 national title, is the preseason favorite in the 2018 USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. The two-time defending champs collected 31 of a possible 32 first-place votes and 799 points. Last seaon, the Sooners (61-9) swept preseason No. 2 Florida in a thrilling WCWS Championship Series to earn their third title in five years and fourth overall. Oklahoma outlasted Florida, 7-5, in an epic 17-inning opener, the longest WCWS game in finals history, followed by a 5-4 nailbiter in game two.

It's cool that Stanford and a few others are keeping the more esoteric sports alive.
Maybe we should compete in a few more of those.
Rack up a few more points.
    Win a few more natties.
Are you listening Scott Stricklin ???

The problem with some of the sports that the PAC 10/12 count is that there are far fewer participants.

Men's Volleyball, only 42 teams, and that includes the likes of Alderson Broaddus, Lewis, and North Greenville.

Men's Fencing, only 26 teams compete, and that includes the likes of Incarnate Word, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Sacred Heart. Also, that 26 number is the maximum number of men's and women's fencing teams; some of those 26 schools only field a women's team (Wagner, for example).

Men's Water Polo is another sport that has like 22 D1 schools in it, but the D2 and lower schools are allowed to compete for the same title! USC, UCLA, Stanford, and Cal are the only teams that have won a "national" championship in those sports going back to 1998.

There's something to be said for winning a basketball title vs. 350 other D1 schools or a baseball title vs. 297 other D1 schools that doesn't measure up quite the same way.

    Go GATORS!

Never happen for a public school like us with limited finances. Especially with title IX.

Exactly. Way easier to win nat champs when you're competing against 26 schools than when you're competing against 260.

But it should be. At least for quite a few. The "real" sports are those that almost everyone competes in. I believe almost all of our nat champs are in those.

Not "fake", "bogus". :D But just because not all schools participate in it. Not because it's not a sport.

My daughter is finally old enough to go to a Gators softball camp this summer. Shout out to Brittany Souilliard who has been great in answering my questions that my daughter has had. She's on the FL Stealth squad and she's been waiting 2 years to finally be old enough to attend the camp. She's beyond excited to pitch on the mound at Katie Seashole. Hoping one day she's out there pitching for the Gators and adding more trophies to the NC cabinet.

Let’s be honest. More colleges competing in a sport does not mean UF is competing against 250 plus colleges for national championships. There are no more than 20 college programs competing for national titles now, regardless of sport. If UF were to compete in men’s volleyball, we would need to recruit from HS program that offered the sport. Too expensive, as most of these top programs are out west. Title 9 also prevents us from adding more men’s scholarships, as would have to add additional women’s Sports and scholarships as well. Unless SEC adds the sport, difficult to compete. Don’t think you will see men’s wrestling, Gymnastics, water polo, soccer, volleyball at UF due to above factors.

Don't put too high expectations on your daughter, especially not at such a young age. If she is doing it to herself, then fine. I raised 3 softball playing girls and saw so many parents pushing their dream on their kids. Many of them quit playing because it just wasn't fun anymore. Always told my daughters to play their best but let academics be what earns their scholarships. The oldest got half of her tuition and living expenses on academic merit, the middle daughter got a full ride playing softball while earning honors and the youngest decided not to be a student athlete (similar to oldest). We attended multiple Gator camps in softball and volleyball, but none were recruited by UF.
