We all loved Tim, but in retrospect his career path worked out perfectly for himself and his family. Caldwell joined the falcons in Jan 2013 as GM.. Tim was released by the Jets in Apr 2013.. Tim had another chance with the Pats and he couldn't cut it.
The NFL has changed since then, and obviously there is more value placed with mobile QB's today, so Tim may have had a better chance to succeed in today's environment.
I can't blame Caldwell for what happened with Tim, he had every opportunity to make another team, but it didn't work out.
For the here and now, Tim and Caldwell have aligned goals, making the Gators the best team possible.

I am both a Jaguars and Gators fan. Love both teams, to the point where it gets personal with me whenever they get dogged.

With that said, there are a lot of Jag fans who have no ties to college or college football, and they get little brother syndrome whenever it comes to the Gators, since there is a big Orange & Blue presence in Jax. There is a perception that the Gators tend to take away attention from the Jags in the media (especially given the Jags' output during the 201X years). Couple this with Tebow being a Jax-Native and his polarizing personality.

The clown that told Tim to change his throwing motion after he graduated from college ruined him in the NFL. If Tebow had never tried to change his throwing motion, who really knows how well Tebow would have done.

I believe his angent talked him into it, but that might NOT be the case. Who was Tim's agent?

This is a very timely and profound thread about what is the current era of major college football (sports really) and the zigs and zags of personnel acquisition and removal and those in charge of such aspects to our team of choice. There are so many ideas of how to move forward towards what we believe is our goals. And so, I thought I would add to this discussion, as it is important at this time to reflect about our ideas of what is real, what is false narrative, what has real value and what is essentially a misguided use of resources, both tangible and emotional.

And so, my take as it relates to our GM and his past is

Do 90k show up to see a bad Jags team play meaningless games? Of thats right, besting fsu matters to those fans more than the nfl could ever matter. Damn right Jags fans have little brother syndrome.

  8. This is what I have always thought as well...Tebow was always instinctive in his explosiveness as a play-maker...It was one of his greatest traits...Changing his throwing motion forced him to primarily focus on the mechanics of 'that' and took away a lot of his instinctive play-making abilities.

You see it as "snarky" because you didn"t like the fact that the JAGS organiization had no intrest in Tebow. Caldwell simply stated that fact. I don't know why " EVEN IF HE'S RELEASED' makes any difference. Apparently the rest of the NFL agreed with Caldwell

Because it was an extra and unnecessary comment about a hometown hero. It's not difficult to understand why some would be bothered. Executives of sports franchises ought to know their audience and be wary of going out of their way to use language or make statements likely to cause trouble for no good reason. Fact or not concerning the organization's perspective, a simple no would have sufficed.

I'm not personally bothered and don't care a bit about the Jags or the NFL. But it's not at all hard to see why this in context was an imprudent comment by an ostensibly professional GM. The hope is that this was a while ago and that he's learned and matured, especially from his time in Philly.

OU was able to change their program around quickly after hiring a GM in early 2025.

I think this is true in most NFL cities that also have a college team. Ive lived in Houston and Miami and both college fan bases seemed to dislike the NFL teams as it takes away attention/pub for their college team.

It still amazes me that every now and then I'll read a thread on this board, which is largely populated by old guys, and it reads like a highschool lunch table of girls bickering about some ridiculous faux pas.

I heard Caldwell said Tim had a big butt, can you believe it. O M G

Yep, you captured my thoughts, perfectly. And what made it more confusing is that I believe the Jags QB at the time was Blaine Gabbert. Not exactly Tom Brady. They had one of the worst QBs in the NFL, so of all places it would be plausible to at least consider the hometown hero or just be more diplomatic about it. He was extra with it.

I always thought it was a low class and disrespectful thing to say about Tebow- and I'm a long way from MS.
The Jags were absolutely awful back then- What did they have to lose? Instead they just doubled down on what they had always done- and continued to lose. (shocker.)
Caldwell didn't turn down Tebow to sign Trevor Lawrence after all.
All of the NFL is risk-averse, but especially the mediocre GMs and coaches. It sounds like Caldwell was no exception.

As far as relevance to today- there is none.
Even an average NFL GM can manage salaries better than almost all college coaches because they've had years in the field.

I hope the guy succeeds because he's working for us, and it was 14 ish years ago, but the whole incident doesn't say much for his character.
Hopefully he's grown and changed a little- especially once he meets Timmy and realizes how extraordinary he is.

A friend of mine is a die hard Jags fan. He does not have one nice thing to say about Caldwell. College is different than NFL so maybe it will work but I am certainly skeptical

All we have on this incident is what is reported by various sources.
Was Caldwell being snarky? Or was his comment made to look snarky?
Either way everyone sometimes sticks their foot into their mouth.

It is very conceivable that the two have talked to each other since that comment was made and that they cleared the air.

If they have not cleared the air, at this point neither one of them is being pissy about it. They both have a goal in helping to get the Gator Football Program to being a top ten program. A public display about any hard feeling is not going to help get to that goal.
