Tyson was a little overvalued during his career. I enjoyed watching him pummel lesser fighters, but he was far from a pugilist from a technical perspective. He usually had the fight won before even stepping in the ring due to the intimidation factor and then simply overpowered the opponent…until he actually ran into some quality fighters. In hindsight, I’m not sure if I would put him even my top 5-10 greatest heavyweights, and certainly not when we start having the pound-for-pound argument. Just my amateur .02.
Joe Frazier all day every day. His resume speaks for itself, he was elite even during the golden age of heavyweight boxing. Tyson never beat an ATG and he struggled with anyone he couldn’t intimidate and bully. No way Tyson’s chin (which wasn’t that great) stands up to the legendary Joe Frazier left hook.
Fraziers left hook started down in his toes and developed increasing energy all the way up through the impact point. And all of that was done in an instant.
