wgb, by chance did u catch the Ramones at the bandshell halloween '84? I dehydrated myself so I would not have to pee & camped out for hours right in front of the stage...was a freshman & was a HUGE ramones fan & had never seen them. I got a pick & a lemon slice that Joey was sucking on. yeah, that fanatical. In fact, only marathon I ever ran was in honor of Joey to raise money for blood cancer research.

Absolutely. I still remember what I was doing when I heard his first hit, "Come Monday." Still one of my favs.

Haha no, as a 5 year old in '84, my parents didn't let me go out much. But it sounds like an awesome show. The bandshell shows I can immediately recall seeing are Flaming Lips and Outkast.

Careful when you step outside onto your porch, 51. There are a bunch of these illegal alien guys out there hanging around waiting for you. :D

One of my best times at UF was at a JB concert at the Alley. Maybe 1980. Sat in the front row (I knew the political cronies who had roped off the first three rows) , traded some Bacardi for a roll of fine weed and partied with the two awesome girls sitting behind us. A night to remember.

Buffett showed up for a Bonnie Raitt concert in G'ville and a drunk JB showed up on stage with Bonnie singing and she promptly kicked his ass off stage.

I went to the post concert bash at the Brown Derby afterward (the roadies invited my date) and he was a complete ass.

Between UF & OSU gigs, I met Urban & Shelly. I knew I was going to hang with them at an afternoon cocktail party....I was so excited that I went to workout that morning & who's at my gym? Urban (Shelly was in a class). I went up & excitedly made a fool of myself. That afternoon over beers was much cooler.

Funniest thing IMO was that Urban & "catch me if you can" Frank Abagnale spoke in the same symposium. While I was chatting with Urban this woman brings Frank over to introduce him to Urban. "This is Frank Abagnale". Urban's face is totally blank. "You know they made the movie, catch me if you can about him". Blank. "With Leonardo DiCaprio." Blank.

Anyway, Urban was pretty cool. Until a few months later. Oh yeah, a huge OSU guy coulda met him but refused to due to well you know.

In all fairness, would anyone buy an Anita Bryant cover of "Mañana"?

When I was in my 3rd year at UF I entered into the Ornamental Horticulture program and we had some folks from the Homestead area, an area known for nursery production. I remember these 3 girls in particular - all from Homestead, who always hung together and they were the ones I remember bring JB to my attention. This was in the beginning of his music career - just before A1A came out. This was the first album I bought....and soon afterwards it was Living and Dying in 3/4 time. Those were some special times....

I saw Jane's Addiction and Love & Rockets at the Reitz Union ballroom. Jane's Addiction got booed as nobody knew who they were yet, so Perry Farrel antagonized the audience. Saw them a year or two later in Orlando and they played African drum music for about 2 hours before taking the stage an hour late. The drum music was a touch repetitive, and people were a little worked up by the time the show started. He was a strange guy.

I love this newspaper announcement for the show - dance music...and $8.

JB was at the 56-6 blowout of the Gamecocks in '08 as a friend of Urban's. He stood on the sidelines in a FLORIDA jacket and talked to the few people who realized he was there. He was quite cordial. As the game got out of hand and folks in the SW corner started to realize it was him, more people came down and wanted to talk. He eventually moved further away from the fence. He was pretty cool in conversing with the fans down there.

Shot from my seats that day:
