David Allan Coe tried to tell everyone this (quite profanely) in song back in 1978.

    :p

    Good story.

And while I don’t really buy much from Buffett, I certainly didn’t buy that 12 pack of lanshark last year because I thought Buffett was poor. And judging from the story, he didn’t sell it to me because he wanted to be a little more rich.

Not sure I understand. As a Buffett fan who likes his stuff from before I was even born, and also loves the beach side of Jimmy, I have never been under any illusion that he wasn't financially...um...OK.

Guy is a business giant, and anyone paying attention knows it.

But his shows are a blast and his music sounds great driving down the beach with the sunroof open and the windows down. I mean he is exactly what I assume he is.

    For what it's worth.....(as of 2016)

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/zackom...s-net-worth-550-million-in-2016/#6a72fa9a4b27

"Jimmy Buffett ranks No. 13 on our first-ever list of America's Wealthiest Celebrities, in which we calculate total net worth by looking at assets and career earnings. Here are some of the details behind his fortune.

    Name: Jimmy Buffett

    Net worth: $550 mil

    Rank (Among American Celebrities): 13

    Age: 69

Key source of fortune: Margaritaville restaurants, hotels and casinos

Future growth: As long as people enjoy being drunk on the beach, expect the Margaritaville empire to continue to expand."

In other words tilly, your "business giant" remark was an understatement. His money dwarfs the vast majority of those "artists" that are out today. And one major difference is he has been able to hang onto his, and grow it. Some of the newer ones will make some major bucks, and proceed to blow a large chunk of it.

I stopped listening to his drivel when I found out he was a commie Liberal. He's not the free spirit fun loving guy that he pretends to be.

The seems a bit much. I can't stand Clint Eastwood's politics, but I'm not getting rid of my collection of his movies nor will I stop watching them.

I'm not talking about getting rid of the old Buffet songs I have , but I don't want to see him live anymore.

And I watch movies from Hollywood actors that have far different political views too. I just wish they'd all, both on the right and the Left stick to their day jobs and leave politics out of their repertoire.

Tell that to Reagan, Schwarzenegger, Trump, Ventura, Franken, Bono (Sonny), and more.

There are always exceptions that can chew gum and walk at the same time without choking on it...

And the Pubs you posted/referenced were not commies haters of American sovereignty... They're globalists/elitists.

His music and the pictures he paints with it resonates with millions. I don't think any of his fans ever thought he took a vow of poverty.

It's not unusual for me to agree with @tilly, but et tu, @BigCroc?
Exactly. The music's fun with the sunroof down on a bright, breezy day, and I really don't think any of us were under any illusions that Jimmy actually lives in a hut on the beach someplace, mixing margaritas in an old, beat-up blender.

I think we need to take that Straw Man that the OP built down to the beach and have a bonfire! And a singalong!

Are you saying he doesn't wake up everyday and use all his crappy branded products?

Especially since many of his latter day songs are about his many boats and airplanes. Anyways, from the beginning the guy was all about manufacturing a nostalgia fueled fantasy, whether it was about being an 18th century pirate or having a pencil thin mustache, the Boston blackie kind.

I saw him perform in Key West in the 1970's when he actually was quite poor. I've seen him many times since, some of my best memories in Gainesville have a Buffett soundtrack.

Next you're going to tell me that Jay Z is a successful business man with a wife and kids that doesn't sell drugs and live in the Marcy projects anymore. To a certain extent, success and time are going to age you out of a certain lifestyle, even if you lived it in your youth when you didn't have fame and money.

I guess that’s a two tone Ricky Ricardo jacket? Quick someone find an autographed picture of Andy Devine!
