Communication goes both ways..... not to mention recruits can call coaches unlimited amount of times and have no restrictions. And let's be real, who was probably more likely sitting around holding their phone 24/7 ? The 18 year old recruit or the grown ass new HC who has a million things on his plate in those first 10 or so days. Basically if he wanted it enough he would have called. And don't go saying he didn't have CBN's phone number. I'm sure somebody at the university or Any of the coaches who were still here thru the bowls know who the new football head coach is and how to get a hold of him.
The NILs have just legitimized what has been happening and allowed them to raise it higher. You think that 50k to each o lineman at Texas started with the NIL? You crazy if so. The schools that rocked out with their $ocks out this cycle were the ones with “NILs” in place for many years. That’s how they took such great advantage of the NILs immediately. You really should remove your head from the sand… schools like UF that just got AR15 a Durango less than a month ago havent been very active in the “NIL” game
Was texas recruiting OL that well the last few years? Was urban recruiting differently at osu than UF? I don't think it's as cut and dry as you suggest.
I know you said "nearly", but this is news to me. I have been working full time since 1982 and never got paid not to work by the govt, past employers, or my current employer.
IMO, it's a situation where the elite guys at a school were always getting under the table recruiting inducements (cars, a few $10k Maccas bags, job/rent for mom), while the vast majority of 'croots were getting a $100 booster handshake or freebies from local businesses here and there. How organized such schemes were likely varied widely by school. NIL has just exponentially increased the compensation for the high end kids in the short term. Top 300 recruits are going to expect to be able to pull a minimum of $50k once they arrive on campus. More significantly, NIL is casting a wider net and most all the kids in the recruiting class are looking to make something of significance. Logically, the schools that were more organized in their system of pre-NIL inducements, would be quicker to adapt to the new 'legit' landscape of deals. TxA&M likely being the posterchild for such wheeling and dealing and subsequently UTx trying to catch up to little brother's compensation scheme.
I could see more starters going in the transfer portal to simply secure a bigger bag from current school or elsewhere. Highest bidder legal now. Hard to pay more than TX, TAM, Bama, and UGA type programs. Miami paid back in their prime. I would expect NIL to benefit a Texas and Miami greatly to bring them back to national prominence.
Texas will definitely mobilize its alumni capital to get back to the upper echelon, especially with the SEC jump soon. I have a feeling they will be main school driving the market up over the next few years. ScUM is interesting. I wonder if all their old, NFL, glory days alums will actually open their wallets to the extent that will be needed. I have my doubts. Other than those former players, there really isn't anyone else to step in and NIL the canes back to prominence.
