Very pleased to see him come on the past few weeks. Fans have been burned by names of off-season hype heroes this past decade, but he looks to be turning a corner.
Don't get this turning the corner and talk about him finally catching up. He was injured all of last year so this is really his first opportunity.
You are right, but when names are dropped often in the offseason I'd hope to see something before games 5/6/7 of the season
In his defense, he is playing behind one of the best group of receivers in the country though. If he comes on now, with those guys ahead of him, he will have every opportunity to be the man next year.
Sorry to pick a nit here - but the thread title really should read "Freshman of the week" - not "Player".
There were SEVEN "Players" chosen:
EC announces Week 8 Players of the Week
D’Andre Swift has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week
LSU safety Jacoby Stevens SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week sharing the award with Texas A&M linebacker Buddy Johnson
SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week Auburn defensive lineman Marlon Davidson
SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, Alabama’s Alex Leatherwood
Florida wide receiver Jacob Copeland was named SEC Freshman of the Week
Vanderbilt punter Harrison Smith was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Congrats to Jacob - really enjoyed seeing him get some playing time and look forward to his future endeavours!
2 of the 7 are Pensacola guys
Not to nitpick, but it does indeed read "SEC Player of the Week"
It might very well originate from rumors that the staff hasn't given him the entire playbook.
When Dan Mullen specifically notes that Copeland has practiced different, gave more and was more disciplined in practice last week , that combined with his noted absence in the first several games of the season lends creedence to the idea that Copeland hadn't put it all together yet
Still think he would be a AA RB. Great speed, built like a LB. Get him 15-18 carries he would break a few long runs a game
I bet he’s happy he became a Gator. What CDM is doing helps make their recruiting job easier.
Agree. He’s not tall. Thought he was practicing the H back role? Look out georgia.
It's actually plural (Players).
Thanks for the title correction......you did the right thing.
So confused by all of this.
Will Toneys return take snaps from Copeland? I like em both but like JCs abilities a little better w Traskmaster
Toney with short passes and screens can possibly help the inside run game
Play Tony and Copeland in the slot on each side with Pitts and Grimes outside..Be fun to see
Rumor is that Toney is taking snaps with first-team at QB.
Okay, not really. But man, would that be a story.
Dude’s got some guns.
“Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
So we expect a redshirt freshman who spent his redshirt year injured to have it all put together by the mid season of what is for al intents and purposes his first year. I guess I say what he is doing is part of the learning curve for a first year player.
