    This deserves it's own thread.

Florida star two-way player Jac Caglianone's spectacular final season at the collegiate level continued Friday when the junior from Tampa (Fla.) Plant High School swatted his 28th home run of the year, which also marked his 200th career hit with the Gators.

Caglianone became the second fastest Gator ever to reach 200 hits. He also ranks second in program history in career home runs (68), trailing only Gator legend Matt LaPorta (74). Caglianone's other accolades this season include a 28-game hitting streak, which ranks second in program history, and a nine-game home run streak, which matched the NCAA record.

It has been both a privilege and a treat to watch Cags play for the Gators baseball team.

    Deserves all the accolades.

Was wondering who was the fastest Gator to 200 hits. Didn't see it in the article.

Ive asked this of a few Gator friends/fam... Cags or Wilkerson as best 2 way UF player.

I dont think Cags will be as good as Wilky in MLB, could be wrong. But that wasnt the question lol

Really? Wow... Needless to say I completely disagree. Dude is practically a lock for top five pick and has an outside chance of going #1 overall. He's projected to be a .300+ hitter with serious power. That was not Brad Wilkerson.

Wilkerson had 189 after his first two seasons. But here's a fun stat...

If you removed Brad's stats from 1996 and 1997, the team each year still hit over .306 (.307/.312 respectively)
In 2024, if you remove Jac's stats, the team hit .255 (.230 in SEC play)

Tucker did it in 146 games; I just assumed it must have been Wilkerson; but when looking at the actual games played, Wilkerson played in more games than Tucker did in each of the first two seasons. Both were tied at 189 after 134 games, but did Wilkerson not get 11 hits in his next 14 games? That would be a little surprising given the schedule and results.

I didnt say would be drafted higher , I said be better.. Wilky 280 MLB hitter, 100+ HR.. Let me know when Cags (or Condon ) approach that.

Zero chance he hits .300 at MLB IMO Possibly a Alonso type ..low avg, high HR.

Brad Wilkerson was not a .280 hitter.

So you don't think Cags will be able to muster a .247 BA and 100 HRs for his career? With what he has shown against the very best SEC competition and future MLB pitchers?

I dont think either Condon or Cags do much in MLB. MLB & current SEC pitching.. is not remotely comparable..

JMO but I do like to wager my opinions. ;)

So I assume the answer to original question is Cags was best 2 way UF player..lol Ive asked about 20,,its about even so far of those that saw both

So does that make him 2nd best in SEC ever behind Huddy, or 3rd behind Huddy & Helton? ;)

Hey, I'm not much of a baseball poster, more of a "reader" of posts, but I simply must pop in and
give props to the great Cag's!!!

    Wow, he is really something.

Perhaps, the baseball gods see fit to give Jac one last run in the College baseball playoffs.
I mean, the guy is like Hank Aaron Jr! I hope it happens. The young man seems to be re-writing all
    the Gator records!

    Huzzah and well done!

Lets look at the Five Tools:

Hit for average: Both can but big edge Cags.
Hit for power: Wilkerson had some pop but nothing like Cags. Big edge Cags.
Fielding: Both have this tool to a high degree. Maybe a slight edge to Wilkerson. Easier to be flashy in the outfield whereas everybody expects the first baseman to pick every difficult throw. They don't get the fan respect they deserve for that.
Throwing ability: Both are A+. This is a wash.
Running speed: No brainer that Wilkerson is faster. Not even just a big edge. Much faster.

So from my perspective Wilkerson was a legit 5 tool player and Cags is a 4 tool player. But two of Cags' tools are way sharper.

Both great ballplayers. I would give an edge to Cags.

    Just my opinion. YMMV.

^^ Curious what they do w/ Cags fielding wise at next level. Leave at 1B, or move to corner OF.

It was a privilege and special treat to see Cags and Langford play over the past couple of years. Outstanding players and true gentlemen- they were often the last guys to leave the field on Sundays signing autographs for one and all. We've missed Wyatt big time this year; think how we'll feel without Cags next year. Without Cags' heroics this year, we'd be scraping bottom in the SEC.
Sully has to hit the trifecta in the Portal and recruiting.
