Does this open the door for Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson to moderate in the future?
Seriously though is NBC out of their minds?
Fine with me. Right wing Trump supporters do not define what the majority of people think, no matter how hard they try to set the agenda.
As far as I can tell, NBC seems to be putting on the debate(s), so not that surprising they would choose one of their own. It also seems that she is one of five moderators. And it’s the democratic debates, so it’s not like a left slant really matters.
I think she’ll do fine. If Carlson ended up as a moderator, I bet he’d do well too. And several of Fox’s more respected folks too, like Wallace and Baier. Hannity...well, I wouldn’t want him on the General election debate. If pubs want him, that’s fine.
Let's be honest the debates are a sham as the moderators never ask the questions that really need to be addressed. They never press the candidates for the details of the sugar they offer. How much you want to bet no one will ask the question on how the candidate will address the national debt or how the candidate intends to pay for FREE items they offer. The question is how do you pay for FREE? Are people donating their time to FREE? Highly doubtful. The rule should be if you mention the word FREE (as in no cost or gratis) you lose period.
A left slant is a bit of an understatement....Maddow is probably way left of even most of the Democrat candidates.
The answers will be amazing...
She’s not moderating the general so no big deal. She’ll ask the tough questions I think. Her style drives me crazy though. She always acts like she’s building the BIG reveal. Over dramatic. But smart woman.
Probably not feasible since they are part of the Trump administration
I can see it now. Maddow - "how much free stuff are you willing to give the American people if you get elected?" "Which one of you will make gay pride day a national Holiday?" "Which one of you will force all schools including all colleges and universities to go gender neutral, by dropping the he and she words?"
I think you’re being a bit harsh on the moderators. I think they often ask pretty good questions. They don’t have much time unfortunately. I forget which candidate it was, but I recall a moderator asking the same question three times once. The candidate side stepped every one. There wasn’t time to keep pushing.
The debates definitely aren’t conducive to deep thought, but I think that’s mostly the fault of the debate structure, rather than the moderators themselves.
Fox had Megyn Kelly on the last one, so guess it's not a huge difference. Other two were Baier and Wallace though for some credibility I guess.
Hm, what to watch, Maddow or game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Drop the puck!!!
Guys (@wrpgator @Gatorrick22 ) it’s clear @Gator515151 wants liberals’ opinion because he cares about us. This isn’t some thread to solicit bashing of Maddow and libbies! Right 51?
Beg to disagree on that point.
Why would they ask a question about something that most Democrats don't care about? This isn't a Republican debate. (Of course, the Republicans sure don't care once they're in charge either.)
The debates have their value. The value isn't getting into the deepest depths of policy.
Go for it. I don't care who moderates Republican debates.
NYT might agree with you
MSNBC and New York Times at odds over reporter appearances on Maddow - CNN
You are really cruising for a bruising with your response. First you use the word ‘she’. Is that the gender identity that Raechel prefers? Then you call her a woman, which in itself is sexist, racist mysogonist, (and all the other ‘ists ‘)
Maddow annoys me. So much build up, so little learned.
And most of these debates fail not because the moderators ask poor questions, but because the candidates give canned speeches in response rather than answering the actual questions.
