If this caused Trump to miss a tee-time, the Vinson and Truman are going to send every thing that they have.....once Hegseth sobers up enough to tweet out the orders to everyone.
As I expected, they launched a symbolic attack. They had no choice but to respond but also are signaling they don’t want to escalate it. Hopefully the Joint Chiefs convince Trump this is what we expected and leave it at that.
Im sure this means nothing to you but I have valued your contributions and well thought out responses over the years. This kind of stuff has become exhausting though.
If there are no casualties, I can absolutely live with letting them have a face-saving temper tantrum. For the record, any attempt to block or mine the Strait is not a face-saving temper tantrum. It is a navy/air force sacrificial business decision. Edit: Early reports from a well-placed source indicate that may be it from Iran. He characterizes it as them “tapping out.” Hope so.
Who has said anything about nation building or regime change? We bombed their nuclear weapons facilities, not their Capitol; we did not assassinate nor capture the Ayatollah; he's been permitted to live and continue reigning as the "Supreme leader". Taking out the nukes was for negotiation (w the Ayatollah) purposes, not for regime change purposes. MTG is wrong. This is far more like Gulf War I (less than a year) and we left Hussain in power, than Gulf 2 (like 12 years).
In Scot made 10 or 11 interesting points in the first 57 seconds of a 15 minute video. I believe Ben Gurion Airport was closed when he made the video with Judge Napolitano. Is the error you're talking about the fact that he said Ben Gurion Airport was "gone" when it was really just "closed" or did he get another point wrong out of maybe 100 or more points? Scott is in high demand on many podcasts because his Intel iis so good. Scott used to work with the Mossad. I think you should listen to the first minute of the 15 minute video again just to hear all the good Intel. Your call of course. Everybody makes inadvertant mistakes. Scott is very honest.
I agree with all of that, except I don’t know that closing the Strait warrants a military attack from us. Do you think it does? I would expect their neighbors in the region and possibly China would get very upset at them if they actually did it.
This quote was from Israel's Channel 11: "Israel sent a formal message to Iran saying Tel Aviv wants to 'end the war'."
One of the challenges is going to be whether everyone feels the need to respond to appease their internal audiences. The Qatari foreign ministry has already put out its statement condemning the “flagrant” violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and reserving the right to “respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression.”
In my opinion, yes. It’s an international shipping lane, not theirs to “close.” We are either committed to maintaining freedom of the seas or we are not. Allowing it for even a day sets a precedent with China that we will rue within 10 years.
Just think of this board like a middle school. It is a place that Scott Ritter is not legally allowed to be near.
What the heck is Hegseth doing, we should have closed the Dept of Defense by now. No need for the silly armed forces, and the budget is balanced.
I think Trump did what he needed to do. Is it scary? Yes, it is. Sometimes we have to do things that we don't want too. Prayers to all our allies and military and govt personnel.
