How's that work?
Not in my book. There is no defending champion. The year finished incomplete, it that doesn’t give UVA a win for 2020, either.
They would be in my mind but obviously with some differences. While they're an entire year removed (instead of just one off season) from the title, they haven't really had a chance to defend it yet. The last title was still won by them.
Agree with @REM08, Virginia was the 2019 National Champions, there was no team that won it this year, so.................. Virginia will be the DEFENDING National Champs in 2021.
Until we have an other champion crowned they are still the champs.
Actually, you know now that I think about it, this really makes them the last team to repeat as champs, right?!
They repeat as “defending” the title, but they didn’t repeat as champs.
Nope - they lost today 59 - 62 vs. Michigan St in the NbN Bracket Challenge.

No, according to Billy Donovan he told his team in 07 that they weren't defending anything, that the 06 title could never be taken from them.
Sounds like an “Asterisk” entry for sure
I get goosebumps every time I hear
Billy’s speech before UCLA.
In my opinion deserves martyr
Gumble - CBS announcer - even said that after that speech the players would run through a wall for Billy.
UVA are defending champs by default; it's as if the 2019-2020 season never happened. However no way in hell have they won back-to-back anything.
Virginia failed to even make the tournament this year. Color me unimpressed.
Isn't FSU the defending champs next year?
Yep, semis are co champs with UCF
