Is there *really* a reason to be scared of Bob Stoops at FSU?

I mean, what's Bob Stoops known for historically? Rolling through the regular season and choking on huge games. He's about to turn 60, does he even have the energy to do what it takes to compete for recruits against Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn and Miami? Sure he's a big name but he's been out for 3 years now. I'm just not that worried about him at FSU. Maybe I'm just naive.

When a single credible source calls it even a remote possibility, then maybe this conversation is worthwhile.

I have a lot of admiration for Bob Stoops. He was a great college coach for about 15 seasons, going back to his days at Kansas State through the '00s. He ran a solid program and got the most of a player's talents. He's a lot like Spurrier. He lost due to his recruiting base not being as rich as the south east united states. A group of kids from the dust bowl aren't going to compete, at the top level, with kids from the gulf coast. Period.

I'm sure he would be a consistent winner again, but no longer "elite". Think: Spurrier at South Carolina.

Having said that, he won't be going to FSU.

This is just on speculation. Like what if we lived on Mars, would it be cool?

IF...and I say IF he went to FSU, I would be worried. It would energize the program and he's a great recruiter and has name recognition. I want them to hire a coach that demoralizes them even further like hiring 2019's version of Cheeseburger Charlie.

10 year ago Bob Stoops? Yes. Today Bob Stoops? Only because he has name recognition. Mostly, if he were truly energized and devoted to doing it, I believe he would do well there. I just don't think he is at a point in his life he wants that. Some folks CAN walk away and be happy.

I would hate it. Especially for recruiting.

If Bob Stoops goes to FSU, Spurrier is gonna give him an atomic wedgie

Well, he's in Dallas right now welcoming the Renegade players for the 2020 season. Strange thing to do if you're about to do a PC for a different job in a day or two.

Even if he does go - which he won't - I don't see him moving the needle much out there. I'd see it like a Richt to The Ewe kind of thing. BGB will stroll in to a dying building and think his name carries enough cache to ride it to glory, but he'll lack the drive necessary to turn the program around quickly.

Even the Big Game Bob that was used to tease him for his lack of NC has turned into Sideshow Bob. If we did not have Mullen, I doubt Stricklin would go after him and think BS was the home run hire.

At first I was a bit concerned.
It would be a big hype hire, and they would boost recruiting.
Don't think it would make them elite and I don't think it would be a long term solution.

Don't want him there at this point purely because my Bother in Law has been chirping about him for weeks and don't want to hear that Stoops turned us down and went to FSU.

Didn't he win a national championship in his 2nd year? Can't win the big game? Please.

Spurrier was elite at SC. GA just played the easier OOD schedule during his prime years which prevented more trips to Atlanta. Plus it didn't help that Clemson hired Dabo. Spurrier has coached in very competitive environments throughout his career (NC when Brown was there, UF and SC).

Not a question of if he won a Natty, how many did he lose, and how many other big games did they lose...….
