The Obama Iran deal paused Iran's uranium enrichment and nuke program. Trump stupidly canceled the Iran deal. A deal that was working, and preventing Iran from making a nuke. Everybody in the world was in agreement that Iran was in compliance.

Iran then started enriching uranium and is now about to make a nuke according to Reuters.

If Trump had kept the Iran deal, then Iran would not be making a nuke. Trumpers claim Iran violated the deal, but they are lying per usual. There is no evidence at all Iran violated anything at all. Just like there is no evidence of voter fraud at all.

Trump was the most devastating and destabilizing force this country has ever known. Prove me wrong.

Now Joe is trying to save the day.

WATCH: Blinken meets with IAEA chief for talks on Iran nuclear activities

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, to the State Department for talks Monday.

In 2018, then-President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew America from the accord, raising tensions across the wider Middle East.

With the talks in Vienna now stalled, Iran has breached limits on its uranium enrichment set by the accord. It is now enriching small amounts of uranium at its closest-ever levels to weapons-grade purity and its stockpile continues to grow.

Iran accelerates enrichment of uranium to near weapons-grade, IAEA says

VIENNA, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Iran has accelerated its enrichment of uranium to near weapons-grade, the U.N. atomic watchdog said in a report on Tuesday seen by Reuters, a move raising tensions with the West as both sides seek to resume talks on reviving Tehran's nuclear deal.

Iran increased the purity to which it is refining uranium to 60% from 20% in April in response to an explosion and power cut at its Natanz site that damaged output at the main underground enrichment plant there.

Iran has blamed the attack on Israel. Weapons-grade is around 90% purity. read more

Seriously YES! While Trump was supposedly on watch, Iran did obtain the necessary centrifuges, then Trump dumped the Treaty. Brilliant. Left our Allies out to dry, just like the deal with the Taliban. Abject failure SMH

The Treaty? What treaty? Surely, you understand that no President can unilaterally abrogate any treaty without the advice and consent of the Senate. That's one of those neato checks-and-balances things in the Constitution. The only thing Trump could have "dumped" without the Senate would be, like, some executive order that some other president did as a means to get around the Constitutional requirements for a treaty.

Thanks for your remedial response. We are still operating under Trumps lack of agreement. If you read the first link the team is attempting to negotiate something but who’d trust we wouldn’t elect another moron?

So sorry, my apology for the flagrant use of treaty vs international agreement.

Now here is a thought. If Iran was not radically Islamist, it should have nuclear weapons from a strategic standpoint. It is surrounded by nuclear powers. Israel, Ukraine (surely you don't think they got rid of all of them), Russia, Pakistan and India are all nuclear powers.

So we should tell Iran to do what they want regarding nukes. However, we should warn them that a nuke launched at any friends will be considered an attack on the US (ala Cuban missile crisis) requiring a full nuclear response. So iran, if you shoot a nuke, you will be erased.

Obama's deal would only postpone them getting nukes for a few years. Time which they have used to upgrade their missile technology. There is no scenario where Iran doesn't eventually get the bomb.

Problem is, once they are getting really close to a functioning nuke, will Israel attack? Even if Israel's nuclear forces survive an initial nuclear attack, most of their population would not. It is not a very large country. Israel knows the Biden administration would not act if Israel was attacked.

My bigger fear is some nuclear break out between nutty countries or some mid level general starts a world wide conflict. A conventional missile here or there is bad but not like nukes going of all over (hard to come back from that).

No need to apologize. You were inadvertently on the correct path to the actual crux of the situation. If the administration before last had done its duty under the Constitution and put a treaty before the Senate, then one of two things would have happened: it would have been ratified, or it wouldn’t. Either way, we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now.

Here’s hoping when President Biden “saves the day” he takes it to the Senate. If those of you who loved this deal with Iran have learned nothing else, then learn this: what one President can casually do without respect for form, the next President can casually undo.

Ok, so hit us with some wisdom. You are Obama. You want to prevent Iran from getting nukes. You know that the Republicans would rather use Iran as wedge issue to score political points than actually do anything about the issue.

What do you do? Presenting a treaty to the Senate has a nice School Yard Rock ring to it, but it without question means no deal gets done.

    So what is your plan?

I love how people casually assume the country is governable, the Constitution works and congress even wants to vote on this stuff lol. It wont even vote to pay its own debts without some kind of self-made crisis. Almost all policy making now is derived from executive powers and the courts.

Put a good treaty with teeth that the Pubs would have to support, if they don't beat them over the head with it!

Can't see the Pubs wanting IRAN with nukes anymore than the Dems would want that. I may be naïve however.

@citygator can you please reduce the OP to the 4 paragraph rule. I prefer to let you do it rather than us choose which 4.

With something like a treaty with Iran, it's trivially easy for the opposition party to find something to criticize. That means there's no deal that the GOP would "have to" support.

So the treaty goes to the Senate, dies there, and then Iran gets nukes. It's just not a realistic strategy if you're Obama and your goal is to stop (or at least slow down) Iran's progress.

Clarify the ask a bit. I put 3 paragraphs from 2 separate news stories. One from yesterday on restarted talks and a second one from August with details on the Iranian progress just for background.

    The opening is just commentary.

Am I supposed to have 2 paragraphs each adding to 4 in this case?
