University of Florida Student President Michael C. Murphy received a formal resolution for his impeachment Tuesday afternoon, which was signed by more than 100 students and alumni. It was delivered to his on-campus office and sent to his UF email. Student senate president Emily Dunson, received a copy, too, in accordance with student government rules. Those behind the effort say Murphy conspired with an official for Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign to bring Donald Trump Jr. and Trump campaign adviser Kimberly Guilfoyle to campus for speeches on Oct. 10. Questions have been raised about the legality of the visit, as Murphy agreed to pay the pair $50,000 in publicly funded student activity fees and the law says public funds cannot be used to support political campaigns. At first I thought it was just anti-Trump students upset that Junior spoke. But given that the student govt president set it up all up through the Trump campaign, that the speech was about what a great president his father has been .... it does look like UF paid Junior $50,000 to give a campaign speech.
Same idiots screaming about Biden’s son legally taking privately funded pay to be on a board are gonna put their head in the sand on Trump’s son taking publicly funded pay for a campaign speech which funded a campaign for re-election.
I mean, the whole thing was super corrupt because the guy's dad has some connection to the Trump campaign, but I cant really tell if SGA was duped into funding the campaign in a sort of bait (paying for a speaker) and switch (oops the money actually went to the Trump campaign) or if that was the actual intent of the whole scheme.
It's also not clear what kinds of checks and balances student govt has. Could this guy just do it all on his own or did it require other approval?
Trump Jr and Guilfoyle, should return the money to the SGA. The SGA should handle it in accordance to their bylaws.
Wasn't the Trump, Jr. speech paid for by Accent? How would the student body president control whom Accent brings to campus?
