The TO could have saved enough time for 3 or 4 plays.

And with that extra timeout, Saban may have turned to Sarkisian and said, "run the normal offense and get me a first down" rather than "run out the clock". Given how we were selling out at that point, its not terribly unlikely they hit a homerun and we lose by 13.

Meh. Kicking an onside kick in an attempt to try and come back and win the game is not where Florida wants to be.

The clock management at the end of the half could have prevented Bama from scoring their touchdown before halftime.

If Bama doesn't score on that possession then it's a completely different ball game.

To me, out of all the mistakes Florida made, this mistake was the most costly.

Hopefully DM will learn a lot from this game. Time management was bad, really bad. Not winding down the clock before first half, he could have sent a player in and said to KT, run clock, especially since our D couldn't stop them. And then calling a crucial time out for a two point conversion was insane. I listened to his post game talk and he admits the choice to call a time out was bad. Yet, as we all know, he didn't own up to not running clock in firs half.
Still, great coach, glad he's ours and he and the team will learn from this. The team went far beyond my expectations for this game. They are the fighting gators.

Definitely possible (even probable). But I'd take that result, with the potential of 30 extra seconds for the offense rather than 16 seconds.

Actually, it wears the 3 times in the first half where we stopped them 3rd down only to have 2 penalties and and a interception return fumble keep the gumps on the field any one those had a much bigger impact on the 1st half in terms of score, momentum and time remaining in the 1st half.

Our playing to our norm on the 1 minute drive isnt outrageous.

That doesn't make sense...it was a 14 point Bama lead at the time. A score and extra point makes it a 7 point game and you could go for 2 if you score another TD. Going for 2 at that point made it a 6 point game...if we missed the 2pt conversion we would have needed it again just to tie and send it to overtime. So no..burning the timeout on the try was a mistake..we didn't need to score 16 points to win the game.

Except you’re overlooking the fact that if they hadn’t got it the first time, they could still tie it with the 2nd 2 OT conversation. If they get them both then we win

Yeah. Dan probably wishes he had that back, but let's be honest. He has to be able to count on a defense that can hold up for at least 60 seconds. Grantham's defense can't.

They weren't going to run out of time. It was virtually impossible. So yeah, we do know that. Admit it, we were all screaming at our TV's to spin clock.

Both 2 point conversions. The plan is obviously planning on scoring the extra TD we needed.

Here is what Mullen had to say about it

    Q. After the Kyle Pitts touchdown, take us through the thought process of the timeout.

Mullen: That was bad clock management on my part. We should have had it ready to go for two. Our thought, though, is we’re going for two right there, we’re going to try the on-side kick. We’re here to win. Would have given us two two-point conversions. If we didn’t get the first one, we’d have to get the second one to tie. If we got the first one, all we needed there was an extra point to win the game at the end. That was the thought process to go for two.

That was a bad job by me, we had to use that timeout there. Would have loved to have that timeout and given us an extra 40 seconds of the ball to try to get the and-one touchdown.

And why didn't we run the clock down at the end of the first half before running in the TD? Could have taken 24 seconds off the clock, Bama most likely doesn't get a TD, maybe not even a field goal.

Disagree, have absolutely no issue going for two at that point if you want to win in overtime. You roll the dice on the first attempt, if you fail you can you still have the opportunity to go for two again for the tie.

Ah, the gift of hindsight. Yes, if we'd have known our first attempt would get in, I am pretty sure DM would have approached it differently. There's just so many things that can go wrong.

Would I have liked us to bleed more time? Of course, but I was more relieved we got the TD. We just came off of a game where we had difficulty punching it in near the goal line. It is just amazing to see we can play even softer coverage in D than we normally do.
