Would people be talking about how great they are this season?

If we had ham, we could have ham and eggs. If we had eggs.

No, just how amazing the offense, specifically the Big 3, did last year. Special Teams Maybe.

Then there is the D and Todd.

Yes for Texas A&M. The media really believes in Jimbo creating a machine there.

I think Oklahoma is getting a lot of attention because of how our defense made their offense look 1000 times better than it probably really is. A shut-down defensive performance probably would have had folks questioning the direction of Oklahoma's program (in terms of the CFP).

If we had beaten Texas A&M and Oklahoma last season...
If we had beaten Texas A&M, would we even have played Oklahoma?
A better question might be: If we had beaten Texas A&M and LSU last season...
Then we would have been in the playoffs and definitely not played against Oklahoma

If we had beaten Texas A&M and Oklahoma last season...
Maybe there would have been a little less whining here about our defense last year. Maybe we would have enjoyed the 3 years of Mullen's tenure for what they are: a huge upgrade to what we had for a decade previously! Maybe, thanks to being slightly better defensively (since it wasn't the offenses that caused us to lose To TAMU) we would have defeated Alabama also. Maybe we would have played Bama a second time in the playoffs. Maybe we would have been National Champs or runner up?

I could be wrong but I think Oklahoma's offense and their QB are for real. I was impressed with the Rattler kid. It's the Big 12 but still they have been putting up big #s for awhile. Think they roll thru their conference again.

The Aggies on the other hand, I have less faith in. They have a new QB and a bunch of new guys on the offensive line. The major positive for them is their schedule, they get mizzou and SC from the east and bama/auburn at home. They even get the Hogs in Arlington. They should easily be 5-0 when bama comes to town. Win that game and Atlanta here they come. Lose that game as I expect and they could easily lose road games to Ole Miss and LSU.

I think the real "if" would be "if" we had one more f-n minute against Bama.

For people who dismiss bowl games as meaningless, the Cotton Bowl has had a huge impact on fan and national perception of the two programs. In one strange game, Oklahoma went from a disappointment to sky high, while UF went from looking redeemed by coming so close against Bama to constant doubt, questions, and grumbles. That meaningless game has shaped both teams' offseasons and will be an inordinately significant factor in where they start the year ranked.

Not only preseason rank but could really have implications on which team makes the playoff this year.
Looking back, the committee may think Oklahoma should have been in last year. Next year, do they leave out that undeserving team that got the fourth slot last year. Oklahoma hasn’t gotten left out for losing every time they getting in .

We were crushed by Oklahoma. Our worst game of the year. The D could not stop anything. You can argue we had a lot of players out, but you could then state we have no depth behind those players. Getting better at DT and defending the run is critical this year. Ensuring better safety play is also critical to any success on D.
