wow, the bad decisions just keep coming. our security and our health is truly being put at major risk by this clown and his gang of clown supporters that put him there

this is who is going to advise us in the event of a pandemic or chemical attack, get your light sabres and rectal lube here,,trump.com..for special discounted xlarge vials of lube

I know a certain poster or two who will be thrilled with this appointment

US scientist who touted hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid named to pandemic prevention role

A proponent of using the drug hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19 despite scant evidence of its efficacy has been named to a top pandemic prevention role at the Department of Health and Human Services, the Washington Post reports.

Steven J Hatfill is a virologist who served in Donald Trump’s first administration, during which he promoted hydroxychloroquine to treat the virus in the early months of the pandemic, when vaccines and treatments were not yet available. He recently started as a special adviser in the office of the director of the administration for strategic preparedness and response, which prepares the country to respond to pandemics, as well as chemical and biological attacks.

It really seems like political loyalty to Trump is more important to this administration than actually helping people or promoting information that will improve their health. Even if that loyalty is to furthering his (and right-wing) mistruths* mistakes about a deadly pandemic is the actual loyalty that is important.

Shocking that this would be acceptable to Trump supporters anyone.

All to be undone in 3 1/2 years. We will be set back a decade though. It will be interesting what the next president will do to stop this unilateral dismantling of the government or maybe she uses her powers to radically push it another way.

real world stuff is going to come home next flu season.

they have abandoned science and went all in on an all in one vaccine rather than one customized each year based on dominant viruses in the southern hemisphere.

Trump Team’s $500 Million Bet on Old Vaccine Technology Puzzles Scientists - KFF Health News

The Trump administration’s unprecedented $500 million grant for a broadly protective flu shot has confounded vaccine and pandemic preparedness experts, who said the project was in early stages, relied on old technology, and was just one of more than 200 such efforts.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shifted the money from a pandemic preparedness fund to a vaccine development program led by two scientists whom the administration recently named to senior positions at the National Institutes of Health.
    ..............................................
Focusing vast resources on a single vaccine candidate “is a little like going to the Kentucky Derby and putting all your money on one horse,” said William Schaffner, a Vanderbilt University professor and past president of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. “In science we normally put money on a number of different horses because we can’t be entirely sure who’s going to win.”

Others were mystified by the decision, since the candidate vaccine uses technology that was largely abandoned in the 1970s and eschews techniques developed in recent decades through funding from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Defense Department.

I thought we all agreed after the Garfield assassination that the Spoils system wasn't efffetive governence. Now, with modern times requiring high levels of specialized training and knowledge, we're just going to return to it.

Between the gutting of the institutions that have seen us rise to prosperity and the shattering of our standing in the Western world - this just keeps getting harder and harder to imagine a comeback.
