Yeah it is too hot. And too sad someone needs to throw more partisan crap in yet another thread.
Perhaps it needs its own thread.

Then let’s throw in the entire Mississippi river flood plain, most of western California due to wild fires and earth quakes, also don’t forget the entire Gulf coast and eastern seaboard within a 5-10 mile range of the coast.

You may or may not realize the vast majority of homes on barrier islands are not million dollar homes.
The federal flood insurance only goes up to 250k if you have that you aren’t rebuild that million dollar home.

The people that have the multimillion doll
at homes don’t need the insurance. It’s the middle class that live there.

Sad it seems some can only see what they want.

Since their property is worth so much more they do pay far more in property taxes.

Yeah that's just not true. The median home price on Sanibel Island was $1.3 million as of August 2022. Sure, a lot of that is the price of the land, but so what? Any new construction on a barrier island in Florida is almost certainly going to be very expensive given the price of the land it is on. You don't build a shack on a million dollar lot. Hopefully people who own expensive beach houses in Florida will have to pay their fair share going forward. Sorry that bothers you so much.

Looks like the structures came through...at least still standing, for the most part.

Cherry pick sanibel, there are hundreds of barrier islands in Florida, the media price for those homes are in the millions.
Plus in the case of Ft myers the massive damage went very far island with respect to flooding. Hell in my area the barrier island homes did far better we had no flooding but 5-6 miles inland whole neighborhoods are still flooded.

Like I said before the millionaire has plenty of money to rebuild but the vast majority of barrier island dwellers are in that category

Plenty of $million + homes on Sanibel/Captiva and Ft Myers Beach, but also several trailer parks in the area. Im aware of at least one in Sanibel and many parks on Ft MYers Beach. Likely most of those trailer park people have little to no insurance, tho typically FEMA comes in and gives them a hand at some point. This sucks big time even for the millionaires, but the situation is far more desperate for the bottom demographic and/or retirees.

Wonder if they’ll look at those modular pontoon bridges as a temporary measure? Not sure if boat traffic is needed.

As I said, if you want the builds then we need to allocate the total risk instead of putting it on others. You want to build on the water in Florida then you pay the sustainable insurance to cover the risk for like situated properties. If you want to build where you’re at fire risk, then pay the increased premium for that.

Perhaps for intermittent emergency access only. The problem will be the modular bridge would sit in the same location they have to rebuild the approaches to the bridge and the islands themselves have to be rebuilt in two places.

Troubling story about Lee County waiting too long to order evacuation.

Facing a Dire Storm Forecast in Florida, Officials Delayed Evacuation

Tuesday was way too late to tell people to get packing. Criminal incompetence. Even if the storm made landfall to the north, the storm surge to the south was going to be massive. This story will gain momentum as the death toll grows.
