There have been a number recorded over 9, but yeah pretty massive. Maybe top 10 as far as what we have recorded.
Already a tsunami in Russia, so the risk across the pacific is real.

Wow, advising people in Oahu to get to the fourth floor or above.

I’m just north of Anchorage and no news of any destruction in Alaska.

Hilo is where I would avoid. They always seem to take the worst of these, 1960 they had a 35 foot wave roll right up the harbor into the town. Even with early warnings dozens were killed. They may be on the safer side this time around though, given where the wuake was.

I am on the big island. We were about to walk out the door to snorkel when we all got warnings on our phones. We are on the coast but it is super steep so we should be on high enough ground.

If really interested, several Hawaii TV stations are live streaming the tsunami coverage.

The last I saw was it was recorded as an 8.8 and that would tie for 6th place as the largest earthquake ever recorded.

I haven't seen any articles on severe waves anywhere, so I guess the strength dissipated as it crossed the ocean.

If you're on the Kona side should be fine. Opposite side needs to look for it.

You want to be in the high part of Hilo, not the low part of Hilo, head for the hi, not the lo
