See your thought comparison but totally different. We were undefeated as was FSU that year but we were obviously 52-20 better than them and they had a hurt QB and we went in overconfident and they were cheating badly and we lost anyway, because we might have thought we were tougher and ready to win our way in. As it turned out we got the rematch. Vandy played aggressive, we also in a big way underestimated any chance they had and it was a typical underdog has a good day to an overconfident team which happens to almost every undefeated team. With a neutral officiating crew and environment we showed FSU what’s up. But yeah, similar in that we did overlook Vandy while we didn’t exactly “overlook” undefeated FSU.
I wasn't joyous, but the way that we played against aTm and Miami was deplorable. If all teams had been as advertised on our schedule, I have no idea how we would have won another game from that point. That was a depressing time, and I was more than ready to turn the page and am still upset at how CBN let that happen. The players pulled together and became much improved and some who were overlooked at the beginning of the season showed their worth and are to be commended. I am not throwing out any champions of life trophies, but these Gators have heart.
Nice to see you posting, have been missing your thoughts and humor. Do have you beat in one area though, been a Gator since freshman orientation in September of 55. Love my Gators and reading your thoughts.
If we were at full strength and playing like we were the last half of the season, I think we could beat anyone. I know, a lot of ifs but something really weird happened to the caliber of play the last half of the season. Even at Texas, I thought both lines of scrimmage looked just as good as theirs. We had to throw guys that weren't ready to play DB back there and got repeatedly burned.
