Although I said in the original post I like the concerted effort to reintroduce our brand to the west coast, I also pause for concern that we are giving these second rate programs (except for Texas) home and homes instead of one in Gainesville, one at a neutral site.

The only west coast programs at this point I would allow a home and home against would be USC and Oregon. That’s all.

Things change so fast in CFB. That schedule is 11 years out. Some of those teams could be great by then. You never know. It's WAY better than playing crappy directional schools!

When is the last time we played a Pac8/10/12 team? 1989?

While it would be pretty cool to play Colorado or Utah at Mile High Stadium, I like the opportunity to play these schools in their back yard and RUTS. Hang half a hundred on 'em and break a few visitors records.

No P5 school is going to accept anything less than a home-and-home. We're just coming off nearly a decade of mediocrity ourselves.

We are an elite program overall with nattys, heismans etc. If you are a Kansas, wake Forrest, northwestern type power 5 school with no football history and you have the chance to showcase your program in the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country against the best conference, you jump all over that if you care about putting yourself on the map.

As much as I hate them, Florida state put its program on the map by taking game after game at Nebraska without a return game. You want respect, you to earn it.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. Don't remember any games against schools in CA, OR, TX (except A&M), etc. Before that, what USC in the Wilbur game?

You hit on a key point. It’s all about national exposure and getting g people familiar with the program so when we do recruit there it’s not a “who’s that?” moment so to speak. That’s my take anyway. Lol

Just to compare, this is the Georgia schedule:

    2022: Oregon (ATL)
    2023: @Oklahoma
    2024: Clemson (ATL)
    2025: @ UCLA
    2026: UCLA
    2027: @ F$U
    2028: F$U & @ Texas
    2029: Texas & @ Clemson
    2030: Clemson & Ohio State
    2031: Oklahoma & @ Ohio State

I understand, but it’s fairly clear what Scott did. UGA scheduled arguably the best team in the other 4 P5 conferences. I’m really not complaining, too much, but I sure would like to watch UF play some of those teams, instead.

But we play FSU every year too...if they’re good, that’s a strong nonconference game.

The last time these two teams played was the opening game of my sophomore year in September 1974.

The Gators won 21-17, despite Cal being led by Steve Bartkowski, who a season later became the first pick in the NFL draft

I was at that game. Cal was loaded. Bartkowski and Chuck Muncie. Great win for the Gators.

We also played Cal to open the season in 1980 in The old Tampa Stadium. UF won 41-13!

Just think how brutal the heat and humidity will be for these PAC teams when they come to the Swamp, especially if they are scheduled early in the season.

That was supposed to be the return trip to Berkeley, but Cal sold the game to Tampa Stadium, and we broke our 13-game losing streak by beating a pretty good Cal team to start the 1980 season. Huge win for Charlie Pell. I remember an acrobatic TD catch by Curt Garrett highlighted that win. Can't remember if that pass was thrown by Bob Hewko or Wayne Peace. Incredible catch, though.
