from the Tal Dem sports desk:
Martin, Jr., 46, has said if named the new coach, he would continue the tradition and legacy of FSU baseball. However, he also stressed he would bring his own style as head coach.
Martin, Jr., according to sources, was among four candidates forwarded to FSU President John Thrasher and Athletics Director David Coburn by a five-person advisory committee formed by Coburn in February. Cindy Hartmann, FSU's Deputy Athletics Director for Administration and advisory committee chair, reached out to candidates Friday to inform them of the selection.

The finalists included Chipola College coach Jeff Johnson, who has led his program to three JUCO national titles.

Honestly, Im just LMAO at this hire, which was nothing more than a nostalgia hire, a legacy hire.

Pops did good to end at the end of his last season and THAT IS THE ONLY REASON MMJ was hired... that, and because their AA is hard up for money.

About 8 months ago I heard it would never be MMJ, but now, after the good run they had, they went and hired sonny boy because dad did good to end his last season as hbc.

MMJ brings nothing new in coaching style and just imo, he is not anywhere as good of a recruiter and his dad was.

And as far as Ive heard from several hard-core nolie friends, they aren't happy either.

Let's be honest, you say everything "again":)

As for that special freshman class.......
They got nothing from any freshman pitchers.
Martin had a great year, he's a player
Nelson did ok, decent defense and hit about 280, a good year
Cabell hit 220 and fielded 950
Sanchez about the same as Cabell with less playing time
DeSedas hits 230 and fields under 925

So is the above special? Given no pitching production? I see 2 good freshman, and maybe a couple more that develop.
At a quick glance looks like FSU freshman arms threw 15 innings and a giant ERA. UF freshman arms threw about 225 innings.

Young hits 311, Calilao hits 276, Acton hits 251, Fabian hits 232
All were good defenders. People gripe on Young but he did field 970, that's light years better than those Nole MIF.

So how come their class is "special", and you call for our guys to sit because they struggle? What am I missing here?

Special FR class? De Sedas batted .231 and Cabell hit .220 and each started well over 50 games. And weren’t you critical of Sully for sticking with his young guys too long?

Said last summer the Martin kid was a good get and Nelson had a decent FR year. De Sedas did not have a good year and Cabell was worse (and there are unconfirmed rumors that he may transfer). Hardly a special FR class.

We can only hope, I know some Seminole Chiefs who will not be happy but I think this is a real Boon to Gator fans in the long run, like Arby's says We Have the Meats, could be the new Nole tagline

I have to wonder if Coach Donovan lost some games to FSU on purpose just to keep their current basketball coach employed there.

I love this hire as a UF fan. As long as the SWAC are happy with 7th place trophies, I am happy to see them “win” them.

Obviously it would be a risk to change but at the same time, Miami has 4 NCs; UF has 1. UF has dominated the series lately. Miami is looking better now than they were 2 years ago. I don’t see how this move helps the SWAC pass either Miami or UF.

100% agree. Martin is going to be good. Cabell is a head case that might transfer. Nelson is decent. DeSedas has potential but has a lot of growing up to do. Pitching.....not so much. Martin is going to have a hard time bringing in top coaches with only a two year deal. They are losing losing a 3B, SS, LF, CF, Ace and closer.

There is a reason a veteran coach gets a short leash (maybe more than one)
