Some sites are reporting that the Gators are attracting star recruits but suggest Mullen still has holes. I am one who trusts Mullen knows what the heck he is doing! Does anyone know what these recruiting sites are alluding to?

We sure could have used a stud safety and DT in this class. Certainly not as bad as years past though.

I agree. Can never have enough D lineman, especially DTs. Need some big time guys in the 2020 class that can come in right away. Shuler has been a life saver, because Conliffe and Slaton haven't lived up to their rankings/expectations. I also noticed Zuniga getting a lot of inside work against Michigan, lining up right next to Polite. He'll probably move back out to DE full time to take Polite's spot, so DT is even more of a need.

The only holes in this class at the moment imo is Safety and DL/DT. We've suffered the DT curse since Spurrier. They should be begging staff to let em on board.

What dt curse? We have had some good ones even if we had our share of busts

Yeah really, Dom Easley amd Sharrif Floyd anyone? Jonathan Bullard? Even our bust Torrey davis had a huge hand in the national championship game win vs okie.

I don't think I've seen any recruiting class where their aren't holes to an extent. There is usually a lack of numbers or quality at a particular position. The trick is to look a 2 year rolling cycles to decide what you've got.

That said, you can't have massive gaps where you overload on one side of the ball or ignore positions completely for 2 cycles. You also always need to pick up OL and DL because they need to physically develop.

Mullen seems to be trying to get overall balance while using transfers to help out as he builds the foundation.

I was happy with Bullard as well as others. Even joe Cohen became a good run stopper. Ray Mac. Floyd, Easley.

We have had our busts namely john brown, Ernie badeaux, Matt patchan, torrey Davis, Marcus Thomas and omar hunter but we got production out of Davis and Thomas even if their behavior issues shortened it.

Had a few great in 2010; zero 2011; essentially one JUCO 2012; I think 3 2013(2 JUCO); 2 2014; Sort of 3 2015 but one didn't stay on roster; 1(?) 2016; 2 2017; 1 2018; 1 so far 2019. I'm doing a rough count and coming up with 17 and should be 2-3 a year so around 25. It's just a position we never seem to be full at and if you have been following since the Spurrier days you would know. Yes, we've had a few good ones but never enough- never too many.

It's not worth me doing a comparison of our DL hauls to other top programs or the ones we compete against but Bama, LSU, georgia and fsu over the same time period would be informative. Meyer's incredible class that included a group of incredible DL is an anomoly imo.

Incredible haul, easily #1 DL class that cycle, but before and since has been spotty.

It’s not over yet. I’d wait until the second signing day to make declaration of holes. I like this class so far and wouldn’t put pass Mullen to have a couple more tricks up his sleeve.

I can't compare volume all I know is that we have had some rocks at DT since the Spurrier days. Can't speak for their backups but Culpepper, McCoy,Gaines,Johnson, Warren, Chester, McGrew, Floyd Cohen, MacDonald, Bullard, Thomas, Davis, off the top of my head were forces. Now numbers wise you're probably right but I feel like we have struggled at linebacker as much as any position on defense. Lot of mediocrity despite the occasional standouts

The class doesn't have holes in it. It just isn't finished. This will be a very well rounded class when all is said and done.

Every program, even Alabama has holes in each recruiting cycle they would like/need to fill.

Each media outlet depending on bias will either praise or criticize everything you do.

    Trust the process.
    Recruit to your system.

The thing is... recruiting isn't even over yet, so how would some of those talking heads really know if we have "holes" in our recruiting. I read some article on that very subject too just recently. I still think we're not done yet. These writers should wait until after signing day to print those opinion pieces.

If you don't hit your goals one year you make a concerted effort the next cycle to double up. Better than reaching for a guy to fill that spot and he ends up being dead weight from a scholarship standpoint. Not only do you want quality, but you'd like production from as many of the 85 spots as possible.

Yes, I think Mullen has done just that--gone after more offensive lineman--due to making up for McElwain.

Definitely had to based on the last 5 years or so. CDM puts a premium on this being a LOS league so he needs a full compliment. Unfortunately 2-3 will likely need to play next season to provide depth. It's also possible one will move to DT.

While this is true, I'd still rather do what Mullen is doing....go hard for players that fit our SYSTEM rather than take whatever highly ranked player, regardless of position, and struggle to make it work.

Some people were happier with 12 four star defensive backs and no OL or LBers in a Muschamp class, simply due to a higher ranking. Never made sense to me
