High School/College football NIL discussion thread

“A third party company can sponsor a player as they see fit.” Yes they can, and that’s how it was sold and how it’s supposed to work, but we’re not seeing a bunch of that though. How many tv commercials, magazine ads, billboards, on-line ads, radio ads, newspaper ads, etc-etc-etc have you seen with college football players pitching said product/service?? Me, not many, at all.

Instead what we have more times than not now is exactly what it should not have turned into, 3rd party(s) entities (some pooling their funds, some are single stand alone individuals) simply paying players to sign/enroll at their school. They then pay via a wire/dd into their account at the agreed upon amount and frequency for their duration at said school. This is straight up inducement / pay-to-play and is what needs to be kibashed asap. It can be done, no doubt, if there is a will. I know exactly who’s gonna jump in here a tell me, you can’t limit what a player makes. Nope, you can’t, but you can regulate how it’s done and from whom though. It’s called rules & regulations.

These 3rd party affiliated entities are the scourge of college football now, imho.

Let’s just pay the players and get it over with. Adding an additional layer of regulation will put us back at bagmen, cars and jobs for handlers again.

You are showing your age. NIL doesn't have to be just for ads and commercials. In this day and age it's about social media. Clicks and likes. It's about doing podcasts and meet and greets it's about doing video calls for "club" members wishing them a happy birthday and influence posting on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
So unless you follow the players on those platforms, you will never see what the are doing to earn their NIL.
As an example 2 weeks ago CamRon Jackson transfered from Memphis. One of the first things he did was blast out on his social media he was going to be the basketball game and to come out to meet him and say hi. That was an NIL move.
