WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today announced the beginning of a coordinated wind-down of its mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), including the cancellation and de-scoping of various contracts and solicitations. The decision follows a comprehensive review of mRNA-related investments initiated during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

“We reviewed the science, listened to the experts, and acted,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “BARDA is terminating 22 mRNA vaccine development investments because the data show these vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu. We’re shifting that funding toward safer, broader vaccine platforms that remain effective even as viruses mutate.”

The wind-down affects a range of programs including:

    • Termination of contracts with Emory University and Tiba Biotech.
    • De-scoping of mRNA-related work in existing contracts with Luminary Labs, ModeX, and Seqirus.
    • Rejection or cancellation of multiple pre-award solicitations, including proposals from Pfizer, Sanofi Pasteur, CSL Seqirus, Gritstone, and others, as part of BARDA’s Rapid Response Partnership Vehicle (RRPV) and VITAL Hub.
    • Restructuring of collaborations with DoD-JPEO, affecting nucleic acid-based vaccine projects with AAHI, AstraZeneca, HDT Bio, and Moderna/UTMB.

This has to be the dumbest move yet from this administration. Why do they hate Americans so much?

Remember the UF research on brain cancer that the NIH helped fund? Yeah well don't expect anymore advancements

Surprising finding could pave way for universal cancer vaccine - UF Health

I know people that work in this space - like actual experts including researchers in academia and people working in corporations as well - and universally, everyone thinks is is completely stupid and insane.

Just a quick reminder that there is no scientific evidence for anything to vaccinate for.

Meh, what do those people know? I will trust the YouTube doctors and Google researchers who will soon be here telling us why this is good thing.

Edit: I was a couple of posts too late

Not just woke but corrupt through and through. This came to print before pan-panic, at which time the media circled wagons to uncritically regurgitate public health talking points and beyond that, to ostracize and marginalize whistle blowers like Jon Ioannidis …

Notice the number of responses he gets though. People have moved on from entertaining whatever reality he lives in. Years and years of redundant spamming and zero converts. Deranged behavior.

Working in this space, mRNA is expanding beyond vaccines into delivering therapeutic proteins for multiple diseases, including oncology, metabolic disorders and rare diseases that are difficult to treat otherwise. The fact that we have various gene therapy platforms, gene editing, biologics and small molecules as diverse ways to attack health problems, it is senseless and idiotic to single out the mRNA platform. While this will definitely hurt our preparedness for future vaccine needs, the other therapeutic uses will continue to be developed. The US is losing global scientific leadership in innovation because of the imbecile in office.

I don’t know a lot about how it all works but the life saving treatments being created are pretty amazing - my friends try to explain it like I’m 5. Sometimes I get it lol.

It is amazing the work they’re doing in the mRNA space. They’re extracting entities that don’t exist …

I submit that under a dental secretary, there would have been far fewer deaths 2020-21.

The breakthroughs today have been decades in the making. Starting my career in the 90's we realized how challenging it was to cure diseases. That's been a key criticism, that we only treated symptoms. Today we are beginning to cure diseases , like sickle cell disease with Casgevy, and it's the holy grail for myself and most scientists in this space. Nearing my retirement but enjoying every minute.

For the scientifically curious and for the people who think scientists and “Big Pharma” are somehow hiding a cure for diseases like cancer, I highly recommend reading “The Philadelphia Chromosome”. It charts out the course of how incremental discoveries over multiple decades that seemed unrelated at the time were connected by a dedicated by a group of researchers against all odds to come up with one of the first targeted therapies against CML, a type of cancer. This paved the way for the multitude of targeted therapies against cancers. Also the book illustrates the importance of institutes like the NIH and NCI in these discoveries and the folly of cutting funding to these institutions.

This appears to be dealing with mrna technology that addresses viral airborne diseases (though I cannot confirm that but is just what it appears to be imo). The following article is one the covid and flu shot lovers will agree with. But sheds light on the reason for the decision. I agree with Bhattacharya. There is not trust now in the public when it comes to mrna and shots for things like covid or the flu. There is a reason hardly anyone takes them now. You can add this to what happens when you fail miserably with public health policy. That said...I do not see mrna having a place in fighting things like viral airborne viruses.
