We got to nouveau riche. Then recruiting, especially in the O-A-D era, got "creative." We haven't been back since.

If, and I said IF, we can get any player in Florida to come and play for us then we can begin to talk about a renaissance. Time will tell.

Only 8 schools have won more national championships than we have and another 6 have 2. That would put us in the top 15 schools on that criteria, or tied for 9th.

I think some are overthinking this.

    353 teams play D-1 basketball.
91 teams have made Final Fours.
Only 14 have made more F4's than us. (Top 4%)
Only 9 of 353 teams have more national titles than us. (Top 2.5%)
We are the 7th best team this century which is now two full decades old.

We are elite by the standard that matters most.

Wel maybe we are an elite program and many of us failed to recognize this status. I guess I was thinking to be elite we needed to make the NCAA most every year, reach the Sweet 16 every other year and make a deep run often enough where other fan circle us on their bracket and say “aw crap, we have to play Florida“.

maybe we’re a quality offensive-minded assistant from being there.

You are elite when people from the west coast bring you up. I can pretty much bet that out of 1,000 people that none bring us up. Reputation is a side affect to an elite program and a huge one because that is how you recruit those 5* McD players from places like California and Arizona.

Results wise we are absolutely elite over the next few decades. Off hand I would guess we are top 5 over the last 30 years.

Perception wise many probably do not realize we've had such success so the 'perception' may not match the reality.

Despite us being top 5ish over the last 30 years, we aren't a blue blood. I consider those schools are Basketball #1 priority, by far, with a very long history. One that can endure rough times and come back, although that has been put to the test (what has Indiana done in a long time?). I'd put UNC, Duke, Indiana, UCLA, and Kansas on that list.

I was in Atlanta in 2007 and had a UCLA fan tell me that the Gators ruined his weekend two years in a row.

He was actually cool with it and said that we deserved it.

We’re the number 7 public university in the country. Outside Florida how many do you think consider us when asked which are the elite universities? Reputation usually lags performance—both positive and negative

We will have a better perception when the cameras switch sides so the Rowdies are in the background and not the ones bussed in from the nursing homes.

Good thing with North Carolina is they've screwed themselves this year. Watching them lose never gets old

Hard question to answer but I'm with Tilly, yes UF is elite.
Regrettably the fan support has been a bit slow and no UF can't just roll into town ala Duke, KY and just take anyone.

Nevertheless Billy laid the foundation, hopefully CMW will turn around the "record creep" that is heading in the reverse direction.

The O'Connell center is great, the state has excellent talent and the SEC is a good conference.

I think UF should carry 24 - 25 wins into the tourney every year.

We had an elite coach, which is just as good, but only for as long as you have the coach.

He's probably part of the crew who assumes any team who out recruits UF pays players. No way that kids might just like other teams or coaches. They should be relegated to a sub forum for other special folk instead of allowed to roam free and interact with us normies.

That’s pretty much the same with every basketball program in the country.

UF is definitely not elite and I'd include the NC years, because the overall fan passion isn't at the level of the elite schools or even some schools the next tier down. Then you have some schools like Indiana. It's been such a long time where they had great success, but I'm pretty sure the fan support is still high. They don't qualify any longer, but I'm sure some old timers might consider them a blue blood. I'd almost equate them to TN football.
