He signed an undrafted free agent contract. He is gone to the Bigs. Coastal Carolina's Tyler Johnson signs with Detroit Tigers as undrafted free agent
I know little about the CC league but where's all the other big name schools represented. I see nothing from Vandy or Louisville or LSU or UNC or SC or MSU etc. Is UF one of the few schools that regularly has players go up there?
87— When Alan played up there the summer of ‘04 he had three teammates from Texas A&M, one from Baylor… not recalling others right now, will have to do some looking.
@Matherly87 — I went back and did some looking on Alan’s 2004 roster for the Wareham Gatemen. We had the Texas A&M guys, 2 from Baylor, 2 from Harvard, 2 from U of Houston, 2 from Ole Miss, one from Vandy, Texas, OkSt, GT, TCU, Rice, ND, Yale, and a few JUCO players….at least what I could find.
I thought it strange that the All Star list had players from so many other non traditional baseball schools like Rutgers but was not represented by schools with generally higher talent. Makes me wonder if there's been a shift in the Cape Cod interests of summer ball. Is there simply more opportunities or other locations with better competition? Are other leagues opening in Alaska or over seas?
well alot of the kids who play for the power house schools, most of the JR's or draft eligible underclass do not play summer ball. So that leaves the Soph and Fresh. Alot of the Soph get invite to Team USA or they are sitting good in Draft and dont wanna chance hurting their status by going and having bad summer with wood at Cape. Not to mention some are battling nagging injuries and some are just plain tired. Many of these guys went to Cape as Freshman and had good summers. So that just leaves mainly Fresh from the big schools. The smaller school guys are usually the ones who gain by playing in the Cape, or guys like COlby who had an off season to go redeem their selves.
