It is time for all Gator gymnastics fans to say, "Jenny built this team beautifully from the start!"
1st SEC championship! No one knows what the NCAA=s will bring, but this places us in contention.

We are going to Auburn unless they change the policy.

Oklahoma, Michigan and Florida scored 198.200. Utah 198.000. The top 4 teams had the highest scores tonight. The Trinity Thomas had the nation's top AA score tonight 39.825. No one else scored above 39.750!

I've gotten ripped for this in the past. But, UF always having the smallest squad is a double edged sword. Having four competitors in the AA is great. Unless the pressure gets to one of them, like the newbie Blakely, and she has an off night.

What is Auburn's final NQS? Alabama's? LSU's? I have to figure it out.

Alabama passed both lsu and Auburn. It will be Alabama five, LSU 6, Auburn 7.

So Bama leap frogged two of the best teams in the country at what was basically a home meet? What a shock?

UF really doesn't have a small squad, although injuries have minimized it. But half the debate on the board this season was some of us defending Jenny using an extensive roster, rather than riding a limited few all season. Manigordo post above was spot on, IMO she has been masterful at keeping people fresh, building depth and getting everyone quality work....while building the team toward a peak at season end.
I think we all know that nationals are always a little bit of a crapshoot, doesn't take much to upset the title run. But this team goes in as solidly as anyone could hope for.

We have 18 on the roster and most have seen significant action all year.

Florida has a large squad compared to most other teams. Morgan Hurd (World champion, projected AA) , Ellie Lazzari (SEC Beam co-champ), Sydney Johnson-Scharpf (Beam and Floor lineup) were all injured- Sydney never fully recovered. That's a lot of routines Jenny had to replace. Rarely did we have 4 AA's in a meet.

I do believe every single gymnast who wasn't dealing with an injury performed in at least 1 routine this season.

Another fascinating tidbit- looking at all the conference championships, many of the top Beam squads had low scores, some even had to count falls. The top beam team Utah did score 49.650. #2 Oklahoma 49.450 and #3 Florida 49.700-the top score today. #4 Auburn had to count a fall. Florida hit all 6 Beam routines when the meet was still very close. It's a very good indication of how we perform under a lot of pressure. If we go 49.600+ on both Beam and Vault- (Combined NQS Florida is #1), the Gators will be very difficult to beat. Beam is the equalizer and if you wobble too much or too much adrenaline on the Vault will make landings bouncy bouncy, then you dig a hole that's tough to overcome. Tonight our combined VT and BB score was 99.175. Utah 98.925, Oklahoma 98.95, Michigan 99.10. We had below average UB score and hit our average Floor score. The 3 other schools posted above average (.100+) on each of the other 2 events. If we had hit average on UB and FX, 198.325. That would be extremely tough to beat at Nationals. Of course this analysis will mean absolutely zilch come meet time when the pressure is on.

As Michigan will do to the lesser programs, they blew everyone away on the vault. However, there was a little protect our best going on when it came to Michigan's floor scores which I thought were a couple of tenths overscored. Michigan isn't the best on the beam, and it showed. Their bars were really good and scored right. Overall, I think 198.0000 was a more appropriate score for the Wolverines.

The female analyst was a Michigan grad. Her open rooting for Michigan was disgusting. Bigger things were small for Michigan and smaller things were big for the rest of the field.

Michigan State improved their lot heading into regionals. They finished as B1G runner up.

Minnesota laid an egg, very poor performance on the balance beam that took them from 1st round leader to out of the competition.

Iowa reminds me of Michigan State, young, athletic and talented, but inexperienced.

Ohio State didn't seem to do anything to impress.

Alabama likely worked themselves into the 5 seed at the SECs. Of note is that Luisa Blanco was injured in her last performance of the evening executing her beam dismount. From what I could tell, she injured her right knee or ankle, maybe both. The awards were televised by SEC Network+. Blanco was standing in front of her team on crutches. Just guessing at this point, I think Blanco's season is over. If so, Alabama is a bit of a hollow 5 seed without Luisa Blanco performing. The Tide team that pushed the Gators all meet will not be the same.
