All 3 playing together. It was not just a 2 man backfield

I’d go with Etienne and Johnson if both have 1000 yards this season.

    Let’s see if they do.

Didn't James Jones play with those three his senior season? Regardless, I'm not sure we will ever have a deeper and more talented backfield than we did then.

James Jones senior year Lorenzo was a sophomore, John L. and Neil were freshman. All played one year together and all 4 were first round draft picks.

    This is the answer folks.
Four 1st round picks in one backfield.

It’s Anderson, John L and Lorenzo. And it’s not a hard debate.

It also should be mentioned that passing offenses back then were not like they are today. If you threw it 20+ times a game, that was a lot.

I'm sorry, but Johnson and Entienne haven't done anything yet to deserve this kind of hype. If they both have amazing seasons, then maybe we can have this debate.

I'll go with John L, Neil and Lorenzo as the best backfield. Emmitt as the best individual.

Rick Caseres, Buford Long, J. Pappa Hall. You can throw Doug Dickey in there at QB.
I remember my Grandfather listening on the radio and my Dad too but, he worked a lot of Saturdays so I would give him a recap when he came nome.

Elijah Williams was one of my favorites. His bar might not have been as high as Fred Taylor, but he almost never got stopped by the first contact.

Maybe not the best but Dubose, Green and Brinson in the wishbone were pretty good.

    Fred Taylor
    Terry Jackson
    Elijah Williams

I remember he would always have an ankle injury for whatever reason. Ended up playing DB in the league for a few years.

To be fair, the article says "Duo", not backfield. I'm guessing from the answers from everyone here that if we we're to pick a best duo and a best backfield, there would be a good bit of overlap.
