Individual contributor athletes like Grant and Caleb Dressel are hard to compare to team "greats", like Spurrier, etc.

But surely, Grant and Caleb are in the discussion as "The Greatest UF Athletes".

Grant will very well hold every hurdling world record when he is done. It is just unbelievable how much better than everyone else he is right now.

The distance he covered from the 2nd to 4th hurdle is unfathomable. He's light years better than the worlds best....certainly on that run he was.

The best part is he turned down a football scholarship at UGA to run track at UF. He MUST be incredibly smart too!!!

Thanks for this. Gator track alum here so I follow it closer than most but I'm certainly no insider.

But to give the board some background.
Grant could have gone pro out of HS- which is increasingly common in the track world.
Instead he stayed 3 years at UF- the guy loves the Gators and was so team oriented.
For instance- a major star doesn't run relays unless he loves the team. Holloway did- including the 4x400.
Giving himself up for the team- truly old school.

But his shining moment came in the High hurdles at the NCAA track championships in 2019.
The NCAA record was set by Renaldo Nehemiah in 1979 at 13.00.
For those that don't know- track records (especially in college) rarely last longer than 5-10 years.
This one had stood for 40! 40!!

So the stage was set for High drama at the NCAA finals.
Because Holloway had lost the high hurdles at the SEC championship to his rival, Daniel Roberts of Kentucky.
Furthermore, Roberts was literally next to Holloway at the NCAA, ramping up the pressure even more.
Then Holloway responded like the champion he is, not only beating Roberts but breaking Nehemiah's 40 year old record.
    He ran 12.98!
But he had to, because Roberts tied that record running 13.00. So basically Holloway had to run the fastest collegiate race in history to win.
    And he did.

here's the video if you have 2 1/2 minutes to get a feel for the kind of competitor Holloway is.

Take a look at the scoring at the SEC and NCAA championships that Holloway participated and you will see that he probably sacrificed some personal records to score points in multiple events, including relays. He was the consummate teammate in my view.

What is more amazing is how perfect that run by GH was. Watching the video, Roberts knocked down 3 hurdles and still ran a 13.00.

I love that we have a top ranked world renown T&F coach that recruits kids 100 percent focused and dedicating themselves to track and not splitting their time between football and track.

It could be someone didn't like you comparing non-revenue sport athletes to those that others follow more closely.
I've heard others say something similiar.

Yet our own Candyman, over on the recruiting board, once said that Holloway could become the Greatest Gator of all time- of any sport.
This statement makes sense if someone thinks about it from a wider perspective.

The whole world does track. Think of all the countries in the Summer Olympics- and almost every one of them has a track team.
That's a lot of competitors over the entire swath of humanity- not just the few countries that play football.
Yet Holloway has a great chance to be the greatest in the world for multiple years.
And be the greatest who ever lived.

    That's pretty special.

Doubtful. There are some people that don't consider such trivial, niche sports as track & field really "athletics". #eyeroll #futballyoubet
