Who the hell is paying these kids? Im not sure we have 7 five star players in a decade! What the heck... did he borrow Candi Fisher to give them "special" services? Now when Mullen kicks the dogs ass it will feel even better.

Jealous of Georgia. They executed the rebuild we've been desperately trying to accomplish for 10 years

It's just too fast and looks fishy. Not one of Saban's past assistants been this "good" this fast, and not one of them can coach at a high level. There are some rumors from someone, a Gator insider, that lives in Georgia that has sworn that there's a diner in northern Georgia that is handing out bags of cash.. rumor, but still you have to wonder when we beat UGA two years ago and they ended up losing 5 games, why... how they signed the #3 class in all of college football after that crappy season.

It's just too sudden for me to think that it's just luck or skill in their coaching staff.

And they now have the #1 recruiting class lined up for 2019 too. Go figure. ;)

What are the chances that said diner can be convinced that a 5'9" 52 yo is in fact a stud football player? I hit the tread mill every now & again.

In 2018, UGA will be down some on defense and lost a few offensive skill players they'll have to replace, but after a year to develop this 2018 class, they could be damn near unbeatable in 2019.

The state of GA. had an unusually large number of elite in-state talent this year too and that made it a lot easier for the UGA staff to recruit this year. Be interesting to see if they could duplicate another recruiting haul like this one.

That said, its well known in recruiting circle about Bama's recruiting "prowess", and now their former top recruiter Kirby Smart goes to UGA and then brings in SEVEN 5*'s after his second year.

I get it, they had great success in 2017, but SEVEN 5*'s?!

Still not convinced Kirb is a great coach. He choked on the big stage getting tight in the second half instead of putting his foot on the throat of the opponent like elite coaches do and cost his team a national championship. Just don’t think X’s and O’s wise he’s that great. He’s somewhere between a Ron Zook and an Urban Meyer in my opinion. Say maybe a....Mark Richt? Richt almost made and would have actually won a natty if they beat Bama that one year with Aaron Murray so it’s not like Kirby has done so much better than his predecessor. Let’s be real, he took advantage of a garbage SEC East with him having a very senior laden Richt left star filled team. They beat what turned out to be an average Norte dame team. Got curb stomped by auburn and then won a rematch when auburn was coming off an emotional hard fought win against their biggest rival which saw them lose their best player to injury and he was a shell of himself trying to play the next week in Atlanta. That same auburn team lost to ucf so they weren’t world beaters. They played Bama close and chocked. If that game kept going on Bama only would have separated further. Saban figured them out and adjusted at halftime. Big deal they were a close loser.

I do not believe they are paying recruits. I bet even Saban is surprised and a bit dismayed.

I don't believe so either. It's like when any school (except us) cleans up on top recruits it's super fishy and they must be cheating lol. Ole Miss did it and they were clearly up to something funny, but Georgia has been reeling in great classes since the days of Richt in the early 2000s and puts plenty of players in the NFL, and now they've got a young coach who was mentored by Nick Saban. Kids are all about trends and the current hot program that's the cool place to be, and right now that's Georgia and Alabama by far in the SEC.

And they signed the #6 class in the country with three 5-stars in Kirby's "transistion" class. A coach that had been a career assistant up until that time.

Like it or not folks, UGa has jumped into the big boy CFL pool with both feet, and with the NCAA asleep at the switch who is to say that isn't the "Smart" move.

Yes and no. Kids are trendy but its not like there hasn't been documented pay or other crooked schemes to lure recruits in the past.

We all know about the obvious ones who were caught but how many gwt away with it? Wasnt there an oklahoma quarterback some years ago who was caught in a car owned by a dealership? Rhett bomar i think among others? Yet oklahoma played us for a title a few years later. The sport is filthy. Id say anyone who thinks recruit buying isnt happening is naive

The more i think about it the crazier it sounds. People will link the trail of evidence against Winston as an example and reason that the dude did something wrong or at the least the TPD conspired to sabotage the investigation. Or pick casey Anthony, OJ etc

But talk about football and recruiting and 1+1 doesn't equal 2.
Bama has tons of smoke but gets away with it. Their main coordinator goes to another team and has the #3 ranked class in a transition year? That alone isn't proof but as a part of a number of issues it sure does.

The NCAA is a joke and the schools are now cheating at all time record levels because the threat of the death penalty is off the table. Also, the rewards of cheating are so big and the risk of punishment so low. If you are not paying you are not going to be competitive.

    I'm jealous too...

Kirby is an Urban Meyer level recruiter. UGA has always had a recruiting advantage on every other school in that they both have a top 4 talent state (big drop off between #4 and #5, but much less between 1,2,3,&4), and they don't share it with any other elite school. And while its early, Kirby seems like he is a well rounded coach and not another Muschamp.

Still, I'm not too worried about UGA yet. Not because I don't think Kirby is building a monster, but because we need to fix our program methodically. We need to fix our engine, before we can think about racing the guy who is constantly upgrading his. Develop players, build relationships, build facilities, sell a vision, and have fun. Do that and we'll largely close the gap, then I'll really stress about how to make up the last few inches.

UGA is paying a huge amount for Asst Coaches. You can attract great recruiters at each position. For example, UGA does not have a LB coach with new previous experience in the coaching ranks, as we have hired. When Kirby needed an OL coach, he went and hired the Arkansas OL coach, who was also their recruiting coordinator (great recruiter). Arkansas played big ball mauling football in their line and he wanted to dominate the line of scrimmage Clemson and Michigan pay their Coordinators 1 million per year, plus bonus. If you want to compete and win, your Assistant coaching budget needs to be like Bama, Clemson, UGA, ....

Kirby is clean. Now that doesn't mean boosters aren't doing stuff behind his back. Georgia fans are excited to have Saban 2.0 and so far it appears that way. That in turn, helps recruit players. There's renewed excitement in Gainesville, but Mullen doesn't have that flashy name that Kirby has. Kirby came from Saban and if people say he's like Saban, well that can't hurt. Saban does have more titles than everyone else combined including Meyer. If Mullen was hired directly from an OC at Ohio State, the excitement might be huge too. Keep in mind, Kirby's name has been floating around for years before he took the Georgia job. The excitement had been brewing for some time. Mullen just up and left before any of that started and Miss St is not Georgia.

Back in the 90s, the path to Atlanta went through the Florida-Tennessee game. It was actually the genesis of the rivalry we had (and still have) with Tennessee - although both teams sucking over the past 7-8 years has certainly tarnished that one.

If Dan Mullen does what we hope he does for us, we will likely be seeing the Florida-Georgia game determine who goes to Atlanta - great for the rivalry, just so long as we get our share of victories.
