Another neutral site game. Looks like there will be few home games this season, although the quality of those games will be strong.

As a side note, FSU will play St. Louis in the same event.

Not a fan of this match up. They should be able to get a much better team to come down to FL. This won't give us much of a lift if we win and a loss here would be bad.

Yeah, we've had some good matchups in that tournament in the past. Michigan, Gonzaga... and the Gators have almost always won. No one cares about FGCU except FGCU.

It may be by design since we already play road / neutral games with FSU, WVU, TCU and 3 in Atlantis. We get the exposure in S FL without having to take on ANOTHER high major away from home and get the RPI boost if we win of it being at a neutral site. I'm a little concerned that we are over scheduling for next season, considering we also play home games against Butler and Mich State.

I think we are at the point where over scheduling shouldn't be an issue. We should be able to win enough games to make the tournament and I think it will be a good test to play against better teams.

Power 5 or A-10 should be in this tournament.

I am of course partially biased since I live in South Florida, so feel free to ignore whatever I say regarding this.

Over scheduling can be a big problem for a young team, but usually it's beneficial in the long run relative to the NCAA Tourney. I only recall one time that early tough opponents turned out to be a complete disaster for the Gators and, unfortunately, that year, it effectively destroyed the entire season (2013-14 if I recall correctly).

I think those years were part of our elite eight runs....right?

Better than us playing on a Navy ship with increasing condensation on the floor if you ask me.

Man, I’ve gone to this game about 12 out of the last 15 years. But don’t remember Michigan or Gonzaga vs UF. I do recall Miami, Providence, West Virginia and other solid match ups though.

Yep. That gimmicky game was a disaster.

Hmm. I'm working off memory here and it was quite a while back. I'd have to check.
