Gators Split Games in Fall Exhibition
Florida and USF split a pair of six-inning games on Sunday afternoon. The Gators took the first game 5-3 and the Bulls won the second 4-1.

The Gators took the first game 5-3 and the Bulls won the second 4-1. It proved to be a good day for many players to get some game action as 17 different players saw at bats.

A total of 11 Florida pitchers took the mound with solid success, allowing seven runs in 12 innings with 15 strikeouts and just two walks.

Florida will play another exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 4, against Jacksonville at McKethan Stadium. The teams will play a pair of seven-inning games beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free.

Below are some individual highlights from the day:
    • Junior Austin Langworthy provided a big blast in the first game with a grand slam in the fourth inning that provided the winning runs.
    • Seniors Nelson Maldonado and Blake Reese each went 2-for-3 with a single and double.
    • Freshman Roberto Pena went 3-for-3 as the third baseman in game two.
    • Fellow freshman Cory Acton played third base and shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
    • Sophomore Brady Smith, freshman Kris Armstrong and freshman Kendrick Calilao each had a pair of hits on the day.
    • Junior Tyler Dyson -- the only pitcher to go multiple innings -- allowed one run on two hits. He had two strikeouts with no walks.
    • Sophomore Tommy Mace struck out the side in a perfect inning. Classmates Jordan Butler, Jack Leftwich and Hunter McMullen also looked sharp with scoreless innings.
    • Five freshman pitchers saw action, tossing an inning apiece: David Luethje (2 H, 1 R, 2 K), Christian Scott (0 H, 0 R, 2 K), Nick Pogue (2 H, 1 R, K), Ben Specht (2 H, 0 R, K) and Hunter Ruth (0 H, 0 R)

    Some encouraging news here.

Nice to see Dyson back. Tommy Mace looked really sharp. Hunter Ruth is an intriguing prospect.

Frosh infielder Pena stepping up nicely and Frosh Acton doing so too and being tried at shortstop. Interesting.
    Frosh Calilao hit well.

Been hearing that Catcher Smith's hitting is improved.

Really nice to have this kind of fall action and reports—special thanks to @Gatorgal04 and @gatorjjh and everyone else here for their posting efforts—

To paraphrase ‘ol Butch—Sully’s got vision, the rest of the world needs bi-focals—

Thanks for the video @kgator27 on Ruth—always a peak interest for me as to how our guys are rebounding from TJ surgery—Ruth intrigues me with his size, arm action, and athleticism—

Just saw Freeman’s clip of Ruth had over 2,200 views, so I guess you are not alone. Then again, Dyson had over 6,000.

Glad to hear we have 3rd base covered either way. Its nice to have options. I wonder if the one (Acton or Pena) who does not start might be our DH for the game most of the time.

Could be, but truthfully I’m not sold on Nellie’s arm health/strength in the outfield yet—

We have no shortage of promising outfielders.

This incoming class has Kendrick Calilao, defensive ace Jacob Young and early enrollee Jud Fabian. All in all giving us a quality depth there we haven't had before.

Able backups for Nellie will be readily available if necessary

And depending on how they develop/mature/perform if they are split on both sides of the plate RHH/LHH that would give Sully another dimension of offense to work with—:)
