Gators Link to Pink Includes SEC Title Subplot
    Mary Howard UF
The top two teams in the Southeastern Conference standings - No. 2 Florida versus No. 8 Alabama - meet in Friday's Gators Link to Pink meet.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Pink replaces orange and blue as the prominent color Friday as No. 2 Florida gymnastics welcomes No. 8 Alabama for the 14th Annual Gators Link to Pink sponsored by UF Health.
Action begins at 5:45 p.m. ET at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

This year's Link to Pink meet also has Southeastern Conference title implications.
The Gators are undefeated in SEC action (5-0) and Alabama is the only remaining team with a single league loss. A win Friday guarantees Florida its second consecutive SEC regular-season title as the team would have one remaining league meet (Feb. 28 at Georgia).
Alabama is the Gators' third top-10 opponent this season.
    The Gators' Last Meet:
Florida set its season-high road score with a 197.875-194.75 Valentine's Day win at then No. 17 Auburn. The total equals Florida's second-highest of season and ties for the nation's No. 6 total of 2020. Another 10.0 on balance beam highlighted an evening of spectacular performances by Florida sophomore Trinity Thomas. Along with her beam win, Thomas posted marks of 9.95 to win uneven bars and floor exercise plus equaled her collegiate best of 39.775 – the nation's third-highest total of 2020 - to claim her fifth all-around win. Freshman Payton Richards set her collegiate vault best of 9.95 to complete Florida's event titles sweep. It was her second vault win of the last three meets. Richards also took second in all-around after matching her career high of 39.50.

SEC title on the line as Gators host Link to Pink
By Jim Harvin/Special to The Sun
The Link to Pink meet at the O’Connell Center is a special occasion for the Florida gymnastics team to spread awareness for breast cancer.
Tonight’s 14th Link to Pink meet happens to offer a little something extra.
With a win against No. 8 Alabama (4-3-1, 3-1 SEC) in the Exactech Arena, the No. 2-ranked Gators (7-0, 5-0) can assure themselves of a second straight regular-season SEC championship heading into their conference finale next Friday at Georgia.

“There are so many opportunities that we are thankful for,” UF coach Jenny Rowland said. “This team has done a great job of putting themselves in this position to have this opportunity pretty early in the season. This team is ready.
“It’s something that since the end of last season they’ve been carrying with them but in a very positive way. I’m very proud of how this team has dealt with adversity and really made the most of it. Friday is just another opportunity for them to show themselves and prove to Gator Nation what this team really is all about.”

The Gators are up for the challenge.
“Being able to come home and have the Link to Pink coincide with potentially winning the SEC regular-season championship is just amazing,” senior Sierra Alexander said. “We love Link to Pink because there is so much support and there is really just love out on the floor and in the environment. We’re really, really excited, so hopefully we can bring it home this weekend.”

While this will be Alexander’s final Link to Pink meet, it will be the first for freshman Payton Richards. She is understandably excited.
Note: School colors are set aside as the teams wear pink to show their support for the breast cancer fight.
“The girls have been talking to me about it for the past couple of weeks because they say it’s something that is so special,” Richards said. “We get to compete for something more than Gator Nation, more than our team and more than ourselves. “I’m really looking forward to it. Personally, having people in my family with breast cancer gives me an even more grateful feeling to be competing at this meet.”

No. 8 Alabama Gymnastics Faces No. 2 Florida Friday in Gainesville
The contest marks the Crimson Tide’s fifth Southeastern Conference meet and fourth road meet of the season
    Alabama Athletics Preview
    GAINESVILLE, Fla.
    – The No. 8 Alabama gymnastics team is in Gainesville, Fla., to take on No. 2 Florida in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen O' Connell Center on Friday. The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network starting at 5 p.m. CT.
It will be the Crimson Tide's fourth road contest as well as its fifth Southeastern Conference meet of the season. After two weeks at home, it will also mark the Tide's first road meet since defeating LSU on Jan. 31. The Gators are returning home after a road victory over No. 20 Auburn last weekend.
The two teams have faced off in 10 regular-season meetings since 2010, with the series tied at 5-5 over that span. The Tide and Gators are also tied with 36 NCAA Championship appearances apiece, two behind all-time leader Utah.

    Head Coach Dana Duckworth Says
"It's taking that confidence that they've had and the consistency and building off of it for this week, focusing on the process and not being concerned with outcomes and results."

Sorry for the late reply John, but YES, the wife and I went. Good meet, had a problem with the judge with the dark black hair and all black outfit, but otherwise totally enjoyed ourselves.

By the way, you were on the front page of the Gainesville Sun's Sports section today. A little fuzzy, but obviously you. Where was your "better half"???? We did not see her with you.

Thanks, never looked at the crowd in that shot :) but you are correct, the old timer was in the pic.... if I remember correctly you were not that far away with your better haf, next time say hey!

My better half has been suffering through the flu for a week, making progress but slower than either of us would like. I thunk they should double the number of meets, the gym season seems so short but it is som much fun... we started going when Earneir Weaver was the coach and were actually at the meet when Pam Titus scored a 10 with her terrific floor routine, gym had well under 2 k back then

    Thanks for the tip
