Game Recap: Baseball | Thursday, March 21, 2019 | Daniel Apple
Gators Fall to Vanderbilt in Opener
Vanderbilt starter Drake Fellows pitched a complete game shutout with five hits allowed and eight strikeouts.

FROM THE 0COACH: Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan – On tonight's game: "I thought Tommy was outstanding tonight. He made some great pitches and did everything he possibly could to keep us in the ballgame. Fellows walked six I think last weekend and he only walked a couple tonight. He did a nice job too. That was a good Friday night game, it just got away from us there in the seventh. With two outs and nobody on they had the infield hit and a bunt and then they scored three runs and the ball never left the infield. We went to the bullpen, threw 11 pitches and I think nine balls. Walked a couple guys, wild pitch, hit by a pitch. It just kind of got away from us at that point.

"The thing about it that's disappointing, not so much the loss, but they had their closer warming up in the bullpen and were probably going to go to him in the eighth but as soon as they tacked on three runs they were able to run Fellows back out there and get the complete game and their closer is available for tomorrow. We've got to go back to the drawing board and get going tomorrow, obviously we've got to do a little better job offensively. We put a couple drags on tonight with the third baseman back and bunted back to the pitcher, put another drag on and tried to pull back on a called strike. The drag was there for us tonight if we could have just strung together a couple good at bats when the game was within a couple runs who knows what could have happened."

We are making it tougher on ourselves with errors in the field. Just not playing Crisp enough!

Force the other team to make the plays that beat you. Don’t make it easy for them!

Like that we are trying to bunt. Seems like for whatever reason we always have trouble bunting.

This should not shock anyone . We knew from beginning catching and SS were not SEC caliber defenders . Reese is borderline. Puts a lot of pressure on offense and pitching . When we face sec arms our defincies will be exposed, plain and simple .

Young a great young talent but not an SEC second baseman yet. Reese is a SEC 2b. Young goes to left field and Reese to 2B. These moves make you better offensively and defensively without a question.

    emphasis on the yet.
it will be interesting to see how long it take 44 to start hitting consistently or at what point does Sully send him to the bench

based on practices and scrimmages the Bunting game, hitter getting it down in the proper lane, pitchers and catchers fielding and throwing to first were all points of emphasis, can't say anything about what is getting worked on in practice now, based on what I have seen in games it needs more work
