(TRACK) Gator Women SEC Cross Country Champs

Valby, did Valby things (back-to-back champion) and the addition of the UNM and Bama transfers put UF over the top for their first women's SEC CC championship since 2012. Mazza-Downie ran for the 1st time this season and finished 8th. The Gators top 5 all finished within the top 19. They have a real shot now at Nationals with the addition of a 5th high level runner.

Women finished 5th last year and 1st this year, Men finished 10th last year and 7th this year. Great improvement under our new coach!

Finished second in their regional today so the they auto Q’d for nationals.

 

Anyone know why Amelia Mazza-Downie didn't race? I think we have a shot at the title with her healthy.

 

Just a guess, but with her coming back from injury and nationals a week from tomorrow, resting her today made sense. We were getting an at large even if we didn’t finish top 2 today so she wasn’t needed.
Hope that’s all it is.

 

Nationals are just 8 days away so it makes sense to hold her out if she’s battling injury.
