Since the portal is growing I figured I might as well start something to track it with. Again this is just a work in progress that I will continually clean up and make changes thru the summer. The players listed below come from our 2023 roster and I will move them down once they announce their intentions. # FULL NAME POS. HT. WT. I just got a bit of info on Hunter Jones, the pitcher from North Marion. His two main pitches are a 94 mph fastball with a 6 to 8 inch arm side tail and a killer slider with some sink. He can throw a change up but it's rare. Was told he's a great kid, just the kind of player you want on your team.
Since I didn't want to start a new thread, here is some good news on a baseball recruit. RHP Caden McDonald Florida Baseball: Gators flip 2023 UCF right-handed pitcher commit Caden McDonald Class of 2023 - Player Profile | Perfect Game USA
Very good opening projection, but I don't pencil in Fabian at SS. Without considering new arrivals, Halter and Thomas both will figure in the SS battle. I see potential OF opportunities for Thomas and Fabian that may be more promising than IF. Regardless of the names in the lineup, the factor that will determine playing time is base hits. The guys who get a lot of them will play.
Thanks for the input guys. The lineup is just a starting point as placeholders. I could see three different lineups just for the infielders with the guys we have for next year. I'm not even trying to place the new guys until they get here in the fall. Who knows who we will have as pitchers for next year since the portal is only getting complex than last year. All of this is more for a place to track the portal players that come and go and our early entries for the draft. I figured it would be easier to start now than after the season and have to piece everything back together from the reports we all find.
Miami is replacing their coach. Georgia is replacing their coach. UCF is replacing their coach. Last year FSU replaced their coach and had the worst season in 40 years. This season could really give the Gators some separation above these nearby programs and give us a bigger edge in recruiting for a year or two.
Well here's why I started the the 2024 thread so soon. Moved Tejeda and Finnvold to the transfer list. I'm very surprised by Tejeda. Maybe he knows something we don't or wants to be closer to home. I can always add him back. Check that, I see now on another post Tejeda transferred to FSU. What is it that Gatorgal likes to say, oh yeah schmuck...
Yes, but I thought he would be in the mix for Sunday starter here. Who knows what the internal dynamics might be.
Next year’s weekend starters are way back burner right now with the CWS looking us squarely in the face—but next year will be here soon enough. That said, without having any true working knowledge about incoming new players and just looking at expected return pitchers—Obviously we have Cags, personally I expect Neely will want his chance to move back into the weekend rotation, and I really believe Cade Fisher will be in the weekend rotation. I would have expected Tejada to be the mid-week starter but that’s just me.
I agree with that. Fisher is big time and has gotten consistently more reliable the more opportunities he's gotten. And it seems Neely reluctantly took the closer role this year and while he's been very good, he wants to be a weekend starter. And it wouldn't surprise me if Sully picks up a starter from the portal. Plus we have Coppola and Clemente in the wings if either can be healthy and a bunch of quality freshmen coming in. Tejada may have seen himself as the odd man out.
jd— Again agree completely. Wild card and question mark both immediately come to mind. Any time you string together the words pitcher/injuries/back/shoulder every and any possible scenario comes into play. You just never know what the outcome/future will be.
