    Gators jumped up to #23 in RPI and #1 in SoS. Solid numbers.
    Eleven games to go 9 in SEC play. Eight of the remaining games are at home. (6 SEC and 2 mid weeks). Gotta win the two mid weeks plus 2 of 3 at home vs Tenn. and Kentucky and then get at least 1 of 3 in Athens. That will get us in the Regionals. Tall order but doable.

    Thanks for the list of real baseball issues- I would add throw strikes- rather than blaming the team's problems on putting emphasis on player development during the Stetson, JU and UCF losses.

    Revisiting this after the Tennessee series as I think it's a lot easier to make a pitching plan now. I think we pitched pretty well against one of the best lineups in the country for about 2 and a half games. My pitching plan is as follows:

    Friday: Coppola (L) 4-5 --> Jameson (R) 3-4 --> Neely (R) 1-2
    Saturday: Peterson (R) 4-5 --> Clemente (R) 2-3 --> Menendez (L) 1-2 --> McNeillie (R) 1-2
    Sunday: Cags (L) 5-6 --> Jameson (R) if available 1-2 --> Neely (R) 1-2 --> McNeillie (R) 1-2

    The starting rotation is pretty easy as Sully said Peterson has earned the opportunity to start again and I think it's pretty clear Coppola is staying in the rotation. I was optimistic about Neely as a starter because of what he did as a freshman but it hasn't been working unfortunately. It looked like he found his groove as a closer again before we made the move too. Before his first start his previous 5 outings totaled 8 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, and 13 strikeouts. I like him sharing closer duties with McNeillie. I also want to throw Purnell's name in. I didn't list him above because I think his usage should be highly dependent on the situation (need a ground ball, bunch of righties coming up, etc.). He could be a factor as well.

    The pitching depth was very questionable for the first half of last year until a few guys stepped up and we were able to lean on 6 or so pitchers to carry us down the stretch and through the postseason. A big reason for that is that Sproat and Waldrep were able to go 6+ innings consistently so we would use less relievers on Friday and Saturday. Including Purnell I have 9 pitchers listed above. Those are the guys that I think have turned a corner and are reliable to some extent.

    Ryan Slater and Cade Fisher are an enigma. I agree with Sully's philosophy that with proven guys who aren't performing you have to keep putting them out there until they snap out of it. But we can't afford to do so in high pressure situations anymore. No inherited baserunners and no close games for them. Because of that, I don't know how they would factor into a pitching plan.

    Also, does anyone know what happened to Philpott? I saw he had a cast on his wrist but I haven't heard anything.

    Nick De la Torre told Dugout Club tonight that Philpot hurt his hand punching a wall after a poor performance. I can't remember for certain if Nick said it's broken, but ...

    Isn’t that the truth—in what scenario do you have UGA sweeping Vandy? That’s about as expected as our series with FSU this season.

    The thing that just drives you nuts the fact that we have continued to make the same mistakes over and over and over. Literally beat your head against the wall—no adjustments. And if ever there is a game of adjustments baseball is it, I mean come on—it’s a game measured by failures.

    The kid is a pitcher. He should be taking care of his arm and hand.
    If he punched a wall he's got a screw loose somewhere. Purposely risking injury would be very selfish. The team needs him.

    I'll say it again, if this kid punched a wall he needs to be removed from the team. I could see Sully waiting it out and sending him packing in the off- season.

    It's one thing to be extremely competitive and another to be selfishly stupid.

    I think this was a serious post which is frightening. Kid is 18/19 years old, competitive and probably very frustrated at how his season has gone. Hop off the soap box and remember what you were like at this age. If that’s the worst thing he does then everyone should be thankful.

    I think you would be shocked at the number of kids that have put a fist in some drywall after a rough game...and some were unlucky enough to hit a stud. It's certainly not preferred behavior but nowhere near the issue you are making it out to be, and no coach is running off a kid for something like that. You wouldn't have a roster if competitive kids were tossed for venting after they had a bad day

    I would not be shocked in the least at the number of kids that have punched drywall. However, I also recall the type of kids that punch walls of any type, or other large, hard, inanimate objects to be (more often than not) loose cannons that more often than not are not worth the extra time to "coach up." Young male athletes are very aggressive and uber-competitive. I get it I was one of those guys and just raised two more.

    But hey... we disagree, and from the replies, your opinion is more common than mine.

    I like passion in a player. Controlled, of course, by at least Philpot cared enough to react that way. Seems like this year's team could use a little more passion.

    That's quite an interesting approach, maybe not well thought out. The trend in your posts is doing things the Vols Way, I'll pass on the advice.

    Latest D1 Regional projection has Gators as the #3 in Durham with 1 Duke (13 seed), 2 UCIrvine, 4 Columbia, paired with the Clemson Regional. At least we know another lineup that won't happen. Probably the smallest ballpark the Gators would see this season, dfinitely smaller than scUM and Stetson, appears nicer than those and UNF maybe the same capacity as UNF.

    At this point I don't think it matters what regional we get in as long as we make it in. Iffy at this point.
