I think that’s the big issue with both Manning and Pogue—the inability to throw strikes. Manning’s outings are full of BB’s, WP’s, and HBP’s. Pogue just hits too many barrels when he does get it across the plate.
To me Pogue looks like he needs more time. Looks like he lost his confidence. Manning is the one I'm worried about. Makes me think he is already looking at other options since we have seen nothing from him and no word of an injury. I would think Jameson will be on a pitch count tonight to keep him available for this weekend.
I guess getting a triple just doesn't mean as much as it used to. No Armstrong in the lineup tonight.
Here's the current SEC standing with each team's last 2 weekend series to play. Tennessee 20-4 .833 42-6 30-2 10-2 ----------Georgia / @Miss State Arkansas 16-8 .667 36-12 28-5 6-6 -----------Vanderbilt / @Alabama LSU 14-10 .583 32-15 24-6 7-7 ---------------Mississippi / @Vanderbilt Texas A&M 14-10 .583 30-16 19-9 10-5 ------Miss State / @Mississippi Auburn 13-11 .542 32-16 20-9 8-6 -----------Alabama / @Kentucky Georgia 13-11 .542 32-16 21-7 9-7 -----------@Tennessee / Missouri Vanderbilt 12-12 .500 31-15 20-9 10-6 -------@Arkansas / LSU Florida 11-13 .458 29-18 18-10 10-8 ---------@Missouri / South Carolina Ole Miss 10-14 .417 27-19 18-10 8-8 ---------@LSU / Texas A&M Alabama 10-14 .417 26-22 20-10 6-12 -------@Auburn / Arkansas South Carolina 10-14 .417 24-22 19-9 4-12 --Kentucky / at Florida Kentucky 9-15 .375 26-21 20-10 6-11 --------@South Carolina / Auburn Mississippi State 9-15 .375 25-23 17-11 7-9 -@Texas A&M / Tennessee Missouri 7-17 .292 25-20 17-6 8-14 ----------Florida / @Georgia Hopefully you can see the importance with this next weekend. The Gators get to go to Missouri and Vandy goes to Arkansas and Georgia goes to Tennessee. Missouri is 17-6 at home so a sweep is probably asking a bit to much for the Gators who are certainly trending in the right direction. But if we can win 2 out of 3 we could catch both Georgia and Vandy if the games go our way. That's how huge this sweep at MSU was for us. Now we have a chance to make some headway in the conference standings, not to mention improving our NCAA aspirations. Interesting to note South Carolina, our last weekend series in Gainesville, has the worst road record in the SEC at 4-12. By season end, I believe we will pass Vanderbilt and hope a sweep against SC will help lift us over Georgia.
Crazy in conference year we are having. We went into it thinking this team was going to have hitters up and down the lineup. But the pitching was going to be the ongoing problem other than Barco. Now more than half our lineup in batting under 250 and our weekend rotation is showing signs of settling in with some support from the relievers. The one common missing link is leadership. See below.
We still have work to do to guarantee a trip to Hoover & the NCAA's. We've all been acting like both are a given, but if we lose tomorrow and then to FSU, we could be in trouble without a sweep of the Gamecocks.
14 wins will get UF in. They need 2 of 4 SEC games. Not a given, granted, but they don’t need to sweep USCe.
Not wanting to to be negative @ocalaman, but anybody that acts like either Hoover or NCAA’s are a given, well—they’re just delusional. We’re going to have to earn it every game now.
Lose tomorrow and they’ll need to sweep to get to 14. Gotta get Jud hitting. Still refuses to go oppo and having trouble w the fastball.
Yep, even some of the prognosticators that are looking 3-4 weeks down the line Igot ahead of themselves. We are working on very very thin ice with a very narrow margin for mess ups and today was pretty major. Gotta win tomorrow and then win Tuesday.
Entering the last week of the regular season Florida, Vandy, Georgia, Ole Miss, and LSU were all one game apart. Much can be gained in this last weekend. So anyone who sweeps will jump ahead. Finishing positions 4 thru 10 will be decided by Saturday night. Tennessee 22-5 Arkansas 17-10 Texas A&M 17-10 Auburn 15-11 *** Vanderbilt 14-13 Georgia 14-13 LSU 14-13 Ole Miss 13-14 Florida 13-14 South Carolina 12-15 Alabama 10-16 *** Kentucky 10-17 Mississippi State 9-18 Missouri 8-19 ***Alabama/Auburn game 3 called in the 5th inning due to rain. Georgia will be hard to catch since they have Missouri in Athens. Ole Miss has a tough challenge with A&M coming into town. Hopefully the Gators can move up 2 spots if everything goes their way.
Certainly agree, I 'm hoping Ole Miss will lose a few with Texas A&M coming in and LSU should have a tough time going to Vandy. Either way LSU or Vandy will lose 2 or more games. If we sweep SC we could finish in the top half of the SEC.
The photo of the 7 "seniors" from Saturday's game got me thinking, if none of them come back how are we looking. I'm not trying to turn the page yet on this year but we will have to start somewhere less than a month from now. After the season I'll start next year's version of this tracker thread. We will have to see who is coming in and who goes straight to the pros before adding the new freshmen in the openings. Here's a shot in the dark for now. Line-Up 1B - Caglianone/??? 2B - Thompson/De Goti SS - Rivera/D Fabian 3B - Halter/D Fabian C -- Lastres/Guscette? LF - Langford/Talbott CF - Robertson/Robinson RF - Evans/Prevask DH - ??? Pitchers of interest in no particular order Sproat, Neely, Nesbitt, Slater, Coppola?, Caglianone, Jameson, Purnell, Ursitti, Manning, Ficarrotta, Abner, etc.
My opinion: Thompson for sure should be gone. He will be a top 3 round pick. Sproat should be gone. Against top 3 rounds pick imo. 2nd round is my guess. Rivera will hope to go imo. Will have to see where he is drafted. Lastres is coming off of TJ. He won’t be able to play C imo next year. I expect a transfer or two to fill a couple holes.
