RHP’s Ben Specht and Christian Scott are raising some eyebrows. Both took velocity jumps in the offseason — Specht has been 92-96 with his FB and Scott sitting 91-95 with his FB in early bullpen sessions. #Gators #SEC

I'm not trying to be cynical, but I'm definitely in "have to see it to believe it" mode right now. "Florida has X number of pitchers throwing infinity MPH" is a story we read every year, and it generally doesn't pan out the way it's supposed to.

Agreed 100%—much prefer to see “pitch” over “throw”.......

I am sure there will be improvement. I am sure there will still be some bumps in the road. I am sure we will be better overall on the mound this coming year.

One of the best things that can happen is for the team to start hungry—and remain that way all year—

    It’s a great motivator—

    Agree 100%.

95 mph over the middle without movement is not a good pitch.

The lack of bullpen development for the last few years is odd. Sully seemed to always find a few arms every single year. The last couple, including the 2017 NC year, the depth has been lacking.

I did a refresh on the line up and batting order. Moved Langworthy back to batting second and now have Fabian batting third as seen at practice. This is only after 2 practices so many more changes in the line up might come. I added Alintoff back to the players list since he is on the fall roster. I removed Garcia since he is not.

More updates added with more practices reports coming in.
Still wondering if Flint is still on the team?? He is on the roster but I haven't seen him.
Batting order is starting to show some consistency. Plenty of moves still to come. I have my eyes on Kirby Mac and Rivera.
I now have Rivera starting at 3rd because of his bat and fielding at SS and 3rd. Hickey is back up.
Mace continues to improve. Leftwich is up and down. Barco had a few good innings last week and 2 good innings before getting in trouble again. Relievers are still an unknown.

    Line-Up
    1st - Calilao/Barco
    2nd - Acton/Nunez
    SS - Blasucci/Nunez
    3rd - Rivera/Hickey
...................INF-(Recruits Nunez, Rivera, Barco, Martin, Roberts)
    C - B Smith/Powell
...................C - Greenfield (Recruits Powell, Hickey)
    LF - Langworthy/Talbot
    CF - Fabian/Brinling
    RF - Young/Edge
...................OF - (Recruits Brinling, Edge JuCo, Talbot)

Nice work, the kids have looked pretty good in the field, hitting will come around, once again it is going to be all about getting a solid pitching rotation the bats are there and the fielding so far, including the catching and SS has been good

Can't wait to see who starts at SS and 3rd these next two games. Certainly won't be the final determination but we should learn a bunch about Sully's thinking in the next two weeks. More than anything I hope we get a few more good surprises on the mound from live action play.

    87—

If you’re talking about good surprises from new guys, I totally agree—

There are the other kinds of surprises as well which I surely hope we don’t see—but honestly we have two guys returning that I’m kinda holding my breath on—hope it’s nothing to be concerned about though.

Just my general observation, but it seems Greenfield’s bat has improved a lot.

For the catcher - how would you rank them defensively? Stopping WP’s and preventing PB’s? Who’s got the best gun; best at throwing out baserunners? And who’s the best at the plate? Getting hits + power?

The 3 practices I've been to its been Smith and Powell behind the plate. 23Fab and JJH would know more than me. Brady is looking better and Powell is good for a freshman. Powell has thrown out a few trying to steal second that I've seen. Most of his in between inning throw downs to second have looked on target.

Blasucci was the starting SS in UF's first exhibition game against Georgia on Nov. 1. He hit 9th and went 1-2. Gators won 5-3 with a batting order of Young, Langworthy, Fabian, Hickey, Calilao, Rivera, Smith, Acton & Blasucci. Rivera played 3rd, Action 2nd, Hickey was DH.

Pena, Alintoff and Miozzi all left UF via the transfer portal in June. Not sure where they ended up.
