FSU paying search firm $100K to find next head coach
    By Luis Torres Sentinel
FSU is paying search firm DHR International a flat fee of $100,000 to find the next head football coach of the Seminoles, according to a contract obtained by the Orlando Sentinel.
The contract was outlined in a letter sent by Glenn Sugiyama, the managing partner of the firm, to FSU President John Trasher on Nov. 4, a day after Willie Taggart was fired. Thrasher signed the contract Nov. 5, which was the day Sugiyama began helping FSU try to find its next head coach.

The Seminoles will have to pay the $100,000 in two installments. The university sent $50,000 once the contract was signed and will owe another $50,000 to DHR once the university makes a hire.
An optional bonus can be paid to DHR International at the discretion of FSU after the search “for a placement deemed impactful to Florida State University and the future of their football program.”

If the coach who is hired via DHR International is fired within two years, FSU has the option of hiring DHR to conduct another coaching search at no additional fee.
The Seminoles have not hired a coach yet, with the search spanning one month. FSU did not use a search firm when it hired Taggart in 2017.

School leaders praised the search firm when they first announced the partnership.

Heupel buyout too big a price for ’Noles

If FSU is considering hiring a football coach from a Group of Five program in the American Athletic Conference, wouldn’t it make sense for the Seminoles to start with UCF head coach Josh Heupel and then go from there?
Instead, it appears the Seminoles are intensely interested in Memphis coach Mike Norvell or perhaps Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell, whose teams will be playing for the AAC championship Saturday.
Certainly, Norvell and Fickell are good, solid coaches who hopefully would do a great job at Florida State, but why isn’t FSU swooping in, scooping up Heupel and taking him and his high-powered offense to Tallahassee?

Well, Knight Nation, you can thank Nebraska coach Scott Frost and, more important, UCF athletics director Danny White for FSU’s apparent lack of interest in Heupel.

Frost, the former UCF coach, was the hottest coaching commodity in the country two seasons ago when he was leading the Knights to an undefeated season and a victory over Auburn in the Peach Bowl. The Gators reportedly wanted to hire him and the Seminoles gauged his interest before Frost, of course, returned to his beloved alma mater in corn country.

It’s no secret Frost has struggled during his first two seasons at Nebraska, although I still believe once he gets one or two more recruiting classes under his belt, he will have the Cornhuskers competing for Big Ten titles. Nevertheless, there are some who believe Frost was a one-hit wonder in Orlando, and perhaps this perception has made FSU athletics director David Coburn think twice about plucking another coach (Heupel) from UCF.
More likely, though, is that Coburn and any other AD interested in hiring Heupel has been scared off by the massive $10 million buyout in Heupel’s contract that White insisted upon when he hired Heupel to replace Frost.
