So now that the Nolies have their hearts set on Norvell (by process of elimination), the relevant questions are: - Will Norvell take the job? I have to think yes. It is the most attractive job open this year (at least so far). Ole Miss has some potential, but they are stuck in the toughest division of the toughest conference. FSU gets an ACC schedule, still pretty loaded with talent (albeit with some holes)—seems ready-made for a quick turnaround. - Should this concern us at all? Tough to say. He has done fairly well at Memphis, but then he inherited a 9-win team from Fuente (who had 10-wins the year before that). If one were to draw a parallel with, eg, Cincinnati where Brian Kelly built up the program and was then followed by Butch Davis, it’s a reminder that (i) -mid-major success doesn’t always transfer (especially in recruiting), and (ii) there can be diminishing returns poaching candidates who inherited already-successful mid-major programs. All that being said, he is clearly a very solid coach, which is more than one can say for Willie. He is probably also a better xs and os guy than Jimbo—so if he can recruit like Jimbo did, he will be very successful at FSU. But as with everything else, it is hard to tell much from mid-major recruiting.
