The JR era begins.....
His name is MEAT.....what did they expect???
Meat collapses in the top of the 9th to the Purple Eagles giving up 3 runs to lose his debut 3-1.....
I have tried to find a boxscore. I assume Van Eck pitched? He is good. He had a great year last year.
He went 5 IP with 8 K’s
Their bullpen ran through 4 pitchers giving up 2 hits, 4 BB’s, and 3 runs...
At least he got to make a lot of trips to the mound just like Dad....
Niagra was RPI 280 last year (15-33 overall)
They had 2 wins better than Q4 last year, and that was a couple of 1-run wins over Cincinnati (RPI = 91).
I'm not going to go as far as MSN and call it an embarrassing loss, but it helps to appreciate a successful result against a team that wasn't expected to do much this year (Marshall).
Seems like Van Eyk did just fine.
Florida State baseball blows ninth-inning lead to open 2020 season with loss to Niagara
The Mike Martin Jr. era of Florida State baseball got off with a bang. Unfortunately for the Seminoles, it wasn’t the type start they were looking for.
No. 14 FSU (0-1) blew a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth inning allowing three runs on two hits and fell 3-1 to Niagara (1-0) to open the 2020 season at Dick Howser Stadium.
The Seminoles went down in order in the ninth with two strikeouts and a flyout.
The 4,670 fans on hand for the opening game of the 2020 season didn't see much offense from either team with five of the seven hits combined for both teams not leaving the infield.

Ouch, 4 walks, 2 singles, and 3 trips to the mound in the top of the 9th.
3 different Niagra Ps struck out 14(spread out evenly among the 3) and only allowed 3 hits.. Thats concerning. One thing to run into a legit ace,, but to be baffled by 3 different Niagra pitchers, no bueno.
They struck out 14 times. FSU pitchers had 15 K’s. FSU can’t hit. Meat not happy.
Doesn’t matter unless we beat them
How old were you the last time they beat us? You had to check, didn't you....
New strategy, lose the first game but try to win the last game of the season.
reminds me of NJIT ( New Jersey Inst of Technology) that I believe plays in FGCU’s conference.
American side or Canadian side?
I was going to quip: it is supposed to be “Niagara Falls”, not “FSU Falls”.
Uh, okay. And if we don’t (and it would be the first time in years we haven’t) I’m sure you’ll be the first person on here griping.
The Spray Starches were not supposed to be very good. Not a good start for meat.
