Well, if it was your intention to prove people who argue the vocal Christians on this board only care about abortion and gays were right, you could not have done any better.

No, it is a remark that you don't like. You and I both know that there is nothing in the bible against "activist judges." That is just you appropriating your beliefs onto the religion.

Basically, you have defined Christianity based on one issue: abortion. That is the truth here.

Silly me for allowing the possibility that there was actual depth to your so-called 'Christian' values rather than culture war bullshit

Those are the two policies that are in the news all the time. You are proving my point. You were going to try and deflect away from the issue. If you want to discuss those policies that is fine. This is not the thread to do so.

I have to say...you did not let me down. I was hoping you would just move on. But you did exactly what I said you would do.

As I said...there was no reason to get into the issues as we can discuss those on another thread. You are attempting to distract from the thread.

Show me where anyone is establishing a religion and which religion it is.

Despite Trump being the first president to have back to back increases in abortion rates since Roe v Wade, you feel like his making it harder for women in developing countries to get access to information about abortion was worth the increase domestically?

    Here you go:

Hard to argue that the church should direct the government when that church is not established as a religion, since religions are not big on pluralism within their religion.

Don’t worry, the handmaid‘s tale and a theocracy cannot happen until after the 80,000 new IRS agents take away everyone’s guns. Until then, you can rest easy. :D

Another fail. Nothing she said says anything about establishing a religion. People should be allowed to freely express their religion. Show where she is pushing to establish her religion…

Fail. She isn't expressing her religion. She is saying that the church should direct government. That is not a Christian religious tenet. That is a statement on the relationship between government and religion, suggesting that the church should dictate policy. That is establishment as it forces everybody to live under the tenets of her religion, regardless of the tenets of their religion.

You asked for evidence and I'll provide some but first an update on Colorado Congresswoman Boebert who has announced her intention to resign her seat in the 3rd district to run for the now vacant seat in the 4th district east of the Rockies.

With Rep. Ken Buck resigning from the 4th district effective March 22, Gov. Polis has called for a special election on June 25 to fill the vacancy. As it is also the date of the primary Boebert was in a pickle. The winner of the special election has an edge to retain the seat in the general election in November as the candidate's name will appear on both ballots, but she cannot run in the special election unless she resigns her current seat in the 3rd.

In a poll earlier this year she won a large enough percentage of votes over a slate of 9 candidates to be listed first on the primary ballot. Citing possible "voter confusion" she decided to forego entering the special election race and concentrate on winning the primary. She has a chance.

But you asked for evidence. Sorry for the length of the evidence, but I've heard one should not come to a gun fight armed with a knife.

Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and speaker Mike Johnson to name three, are promoting Christian Nationalism. . Boebert has promoted the idea of a Christian government in a number of churches here in Colorado in the last 2 years. Two here in Grand Junction and several others in small churches in small Western Slope churches in the 3rd district. In June of 2022 she spoke to attendees at the Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, Colorado.
Lauren Boebert says the church should direct government, days after SCOTUS overturns abortion rights

Here is the video of the event, placed on Youtube by the church. After a florid introduction by the pastor she begins speaking at the 47 second mark and speaks for just over 50 minutes.

Christian nationalism: Marjorie Taylor Greene doubles down on label amid controversy

"Greene reiterated her position in a response on Twitter, saying she was being 'attacked by the Godless left' for calling herself a Christian nationalist, declaring that she’s proud of that title.
    So what is Christian Nationalism?
"Christian nationalism is a political ideology that believes that America is an inherently Christian nation, according to an explainer published by Rutgers. Christian nationalists want there to be a close relationship between Christianity and the state, and believe there should be political efforts to 'secure a privileged position for Christianity in the public square.'

"In the book 'Taking America Back for God: Christian Nationalism in the United States,' the authors lay out the ideas that they believe are fundamental to the platform of Christian nationalists, which include declaring the United States a Christian nation, the government explicitly advocating Christian values, not enforcing separation of church and state and the belief that the 'success of the United States is a part of God’s plan.'"

NEW CONGRESSIONAL REPORT HIGHLIGHTS MIKE JOHNSON’S CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST VIEWS
JOHNSON HAS DEDICATED HIS CAREER TO “UNDERMINING
CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS” THROUGH HIS FAR RIGHT VIEWS, THE REPORT SAYS.

    JANUARY 11, 2024
"Members of the Congressional Freethought Caucus (CFC), a collection of 20 lawmakers in Congress who seek to “protect the secular character of our government by adhering to the strict Constitutional principle of the separation of church and state,” released a white paper report on Wednesday showcasing Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s (R-Louisiana) disturbing Christian nationalist views.

"The report includes insights into how Johnson has tried to integrate his far right Christian views into government and public spheres — and highlights how Johnson, a then-relatively unknown lawmaker, played an instrumental role in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election in order to keep former President Donald Trump in the White House.

"In remarks about the report on Wednesday, caucus co-chair Rep. Jared Huffman (D-California) noted that, while Trump was largely responsible for the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, 'Christian nationalism was [also] there in a big way.'"

The article goes on to say Trump's presidency gave the nationalists a "sort of rocket fuel."

Quoting Rep Jared Huffman "They tasted power, they want more of it, and although Trump is gone, they now have one of their own as speaker of the House."

Speaker Mike Johnson calls separation of church and state ‘a misnomer
Christian nationalist House speaker bemoans ‘misunderstanding’ of one of US’s founding principles

"The second-in-line to the presidency informed Americans on Tuesday that their time-honored conception of one of the founding principles of the country was a 'misunderstanding'. Speaking to CNBC’s Squawk Box, he tried to turn the conventional wisdom about the founders’ intentions on its head and claimed what they really wanted was to stop government interfering with religion, not the other way around.
“'The separation of church and state is a misnomer,'” the speaker said in an interview with the TV channel from the US Capitol. 'People misunderstand it. Of course, it comes from a phrase that was in a letter that Jefferson wrote. It’s not in the constitution.'

"Johnson was referring to Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist Association of Connecticut, written in 1802 when the third president was in the White House. It makes clear that the founding fathers subscribed to a powerful separation of church and state, which they enshrined in the establishment clause of the first amendment.

"Jefferson in his letter quotes the establishment clause saying that Congress should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof'. He goes on to say that it builds 'a wall of separation between Church & State'."

Mike Johnson Conducted Seminars Promoting the US as a “Christian Nation” – Mother Jones

"Mike and Kelly Johnson, each a fundamentalist Christian and culture war battler who advocates adhering to what they call a 'biblical worldview,' launched this initiative in 2019. After one such presentation on February 24, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana, where they are members—an event that also featured Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council—a local television news show reported that the seminar’s goal was to 'keep God in Government.' Johnson posted the article on his congressional website.

"Mike Johnson ran through a quick version of US history, in which he insisted, 'We began as a Christian nation.' He pointed out that Christopher Columbus said that he journeyed to the Americas 'to bring the gospel to unknown coastlands and people.” Johnson added, “We would call him an evangelical today.' Fired up, he offered a litany of statements from the nation’s founders, government officials, and Supreme Court officials who cited God or religion as essential to the United States. 'Is this a Christian nation?' he asked. 'Yes, we live in a post-Christian culture. I think that’s beyond dispute. You can’t even argue with a straight face that this did not begin as a Christian nation.'

"Mike Johnson sees himself as part of small band of righteous officials who take on the hard task of governing strictly according to the tenets of Christian fundamentalism. He and Kelly are true believers. He has long associated with Christian nationalism; crusaded against gay rights and same-sex marriage; decried no-fault divorce; and pushed for a total ban on abortion. Her Christian counseling practice has compared homosexuality to bestiality and incest. They share a dark view of the modern world. In a sermon he preached in 2016, Johnson declared, “We’re living in a completely amoral society.” And during a podcast last year with Jordan Peterson, the Canadian conservative provocateur, he said that “sinister” elites were responsible for orchestrating climate change as an issue to achieve global 'control.'

"In a time of political upheaval, cultural clashes, and war, it’s clear that Mike Johnson believes he has the solution. It’s not government of the people, but government shaped by his fundamentalist worldview. As his wife and partner-in-preaching says, nothing else makes sense. They possess the truth, and now, as he has become second in the line of presidential succession, he has the opportunity to meld power to this truth and serve the goal of making America a Christian nation."

It was hosted by Congressman Mike Johnson and Tony Perkins. Perkins is the president of the Family Research Council, or FRC, in Washington D.C.

Perkins says their goal is to educate everyone about issues that affect the nation from a biblical standpoint.

"We have a great opportunity to fix some of these problems and to do that, I think there's an understanding that as Christians we have and responsibility to be involved in our government," Perkins said.

We also talked Congressman Johnson who says he and Perkins be traveling all around the state to have more seminars like these.

About 150 people showed up to the event. No word on when or where the next seminar will be.

Biden's push to fight against child poverty and child medical care truly shows us his Christian values and is why millions of Christians will be voting for him. As Christians they understand that they can't support a rapist. The only Christians that will be voting for a rapist or the right wingers.
    Biden represents true Christian values

The second any one of those three or anyone calls to establish Christianity as the religion of this country. I will call them out. But they should absolutely be able to freely exercise their religion when they serve. Just like any elected official regardless of religion.

“Christian Nationalism” is just a dog whistle for the left…

When Jesus walked the dusty roads of Judaea he had a ragtag entourage of followers and associates who caught the eye of the hypocritical Pharisees. Jesus was criticized for dining with prostitutes and tax collectors. The two classes of people held in greatest contempt by the 'religious' Jews - the pariahs of their time. In certain Christian circles in today's world pariahs are also recognized and targeted. Abortionists and all types of homosexuals or those sexually out of the norm.
