Former Vanderbilt quarterback Mo Hasan recently took to social media claiming that the Italian mob was paying players in the SEC to fix college football games during his time in the conference. During a recent podcast, the quarterback claimed that a member of the mob approached him at a bar in Nashville, where he offered Hasan $300,000 to fix a football game he was competing in. Not only is this a pretty bold claim to make, but throwing it out there that the mob was involved might not be the smartest thing to do.

In the course of claiming that the mob was trying to entice him to play ball, Mo Hasan decided to reveal that the mob spokesperson told him that even Alabama players were involved in the scheme.

"I was approached at Jason Aldean’s bar in Nashville by the Italian mob to fix football games," Mo Hasan said on the podcast. "He offered me $300,000. I went to get drinks and so I’m alone right now. I’m not with my friend group. He comes up to me. He offered me $300,000. He said, ‘For something like this, my clients pay $250 to $300K. For a game," Hasan said.

Hasan did not stop there, deciding to throw an opposing school at the time under the alleged bus. "He said we regularly talk to guys in your position about fixing games. He named guys in the SEC who, I don’t want to say their names because they’re in the NFL right now and that’s a bad deal. But, the University of Alabama, I will tell you that," Hasan said.

Not sure why anyone would pay a Vandy player to lose a game, that was likely going to happen anyway.

Hope there are no horse heads involved as a result of him revealing this.

If this story is true, look for Mo Hasan to disappear or to have a fatal accident in the near future.

He was probably like “I got this in the bag. Can we work out a deal for each game?”

Easier for a bad team to tank further than for a good team to suddenly stink

  11. Right… Mo Hasan played in 7 games in 2 years at Vanderbilt and 0 games in 2 years at USCw. The Italian mob is responsible for Vandy’s 6-7 and 3-9 record while he was there. Of course. That must be why Florida has losing seasons—the Italian mob!

What's the difference between paying a player to play well vs poorly? It should be covered by NIL

NIL isn't tied to performance or a contract or anything, just payment for the player to play for a team until they don't feel like it anymore. Why can't the request be to play badly?

I’ve been thinking the basketball officiating was particularly poor this year, and Rudy Goebert straight up made that accusation at NBA refs (and we know at least 1 NBA in the past actually was “influencing” games). Definitely things that make you go… hmm.

I don’t doubt it probably has happened in CFB. Not sure I’m buying that Vandy players story though. It’s Vandy… no other explanation necessary. Seems like a tall tale.

I never knew the Mob had a spokesman. With that ignorant utterance, Mo lost me there.

Probably better to shave points in obscure games than blatantly steal a Super Bowl appearance from the saints . Certainly gets less attention.
