This is news? Except for "the best" to describe his splitter as a secondary pitch. Off and on I got to talk with some scouts this past season and those scouts should never play poker. When I mentioned Waldrep they all had a tell.
Jacob Young with the walk-off! https://x.com/gatorsbb/status/1699620890395247043? s=46&t=TfUrtOYLt_NdgXeikQz8pA
The runs given up by whatever metric just never matched the stuff, likely due to bad luck which can happen when you only have 10 starts that truly matter. Was only able to make it to 1 game this year and that turned out to to be the Saturday Vandy game (had a blast with my dad who'd gone through chemo the year prior) where Waldrep looked unhittable first inning before the rain delay. During the rain delay (while chilling on the concourse) a few scouts grinned when we asked them if they were there to watch Waldrep, they all knew the talent.
On twitter seems like there's a division between Mets fans who wanna keep and those who think he only hits homers in garbage time, feels like that injury earlier this year plays a big role in these discussions. The stats scream that he's the only Met actually worth any salary this year and $14.5 mil is peanuts compared to what he'd get if he ends up a free agent.
If the rest of the team didn’t suck and other players did something late in the game, maybe they would call them comebacks instead of garbage time.
I miss the Greenville Braves. Now they have a Boston affiliate here for all of the snowbirds who have moved down here and ruined the place.
Jacob Young has a day. 2 hits against the Braves and nice running catch. Says “I think I belong here”. Jacob Young sees how far he has come as Nats open doubleheader with win — The Washington Post
Not pro related but Jordan Carrion in the portal, just didn't work out here behind Rivera he'll land okay
Grass is always greener. Don’t think he’d be in line for a starting job here even if he’d stuck it out though. He’ll be transferring further down than fsu this go around.
@paidinfull — I know this will never get on the table, but in today’s climate of “college athletics/sports” between the transfer portal and NIL monies there’s not a lot of legitimate amateur collegiate sports on the fields of play….. At least put an iron-clad rule into the transfer portal that it can only be used once by any athlete regardless of sport. But that’s just me.
I would like the one freebie to be after you’ve graduated, like it used to be too. Otherwise you sit a year. I’m afraid that genie is already out of the bottle and will not be going back in though. Not sure if you saw, but there was another court ruling this week that said all transfers are immediately eligible, no restrictions. I guess not so much a ruling, as a tro, or temp injunction. None the less if the lawsuit makes it all the way through, it’s going to be even more of a free for all than it is now, and it’s already a total shit show.
Nice pre-season note on Waldrep. Hurston Waldrep, pitcher 2023 MILB stats: 0-1, 1.53 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched The Braves' first-round pick in last year's draft, pitcher Hurston Waldrep shot through the system and could be knocking on the door for his MLB debut in 2024 after being invited to spring training with the major league club. Only 21 years old, Waldrep was dominant in the minors last year striking out 41 hitters over 29.2 innings pitched while allowing only five runs scored in four different levels of the minors. With only one start in Triple-A, he will likely begin the season there barring a major turn of events to gain the experience he will need to be successful at the highest level. He looks like he could be a major piece to the future in Atlanta after falling into their laps in the 2023 MLB Draft. Rising stars for the Atlanta Braves — Yardbarker
