On my post #1390 on this thread/this page I posted about the HS team that Tommy Boss is coach of and you gave me a dislike emoji and it didn’t make sense to me.
Deleted it. Those buttons are quite small and it's easy for my quaking hand to hit wrong button. Mea culpa
Just checked. They're still around. They're an affiliate of the Orioles. I wasn't sure because apparently the Washington Post doesn't cover them at all anymore.
Yep still the same.. Bowie Baysox.. Those are promotional jerseys in pic. Aberdeen IronBirds is the low A team Norfolk Tides is AAA
Jud ended up 1-3 in that game: 1 HR, 2 BB, 2 K, which is very on-brand for him. Currently only hitting .159/.321/.397 in Bowie, with 86 K in 211 PA, but a bit unlucky with a .250 BABIP. He's playing in CF in well over half his games, already 3 Assists in 27 games, so his defense is holding. My cousin goes to Baysox games a lot and describes his approach at the plate as "unbelievably passive". (And I'd wager money she'd be a better scout than I.) Maybe the O's organization are trying to key in on discipline for him and not just raw numbers. (Alex Faedo's first turn at AA meant 15 HR in just 60 IP as they made him throw a crapload of changeups because he'd need that in the show.. and he's there now, so maybe things will work out for Jud.) From the "never saw this coming file", Nick Horvath (2016-8 Gator CF) is now at High-A Tri-City (Angels)... as a starting pitcher! No joke: Nick Horvath Stats, Fantasy & News Looks like he switched over during his time in the Frontier League as part of the -- also in the NSTC file -- 2021 and 2022 Équipe Québec: Nick Horvath Amateur, College, Minor & Independent Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com
Congratulations to Jacob. He was always one of my favorites to watch - went at it full bore all the time
Just something cool about Gator players making it to the show, it's such a tough road for essentially everyone. There are more non-descript guys who make it in MLB as opposed to physical freaks like in football/basketball, I think it gets lost how good you have to be to even look like you belong in the show. Out of an elite pitcher's hand that ball may as well dance back and forth 10 times screaming "please swing" before the bottom falls out and guys look absolutely silly.
Mickey Lolich didn't look like an athlete but he was one hell of a pitcher. David Letterman famously called Terry Forster a "fat tub of goo". 16 years in The Show.
Went to a Double A Pensacola Blue Wahoo’s game Saturday night, they were playing the Chattanooga Lookouts. We were on the third base line near the visitors bullpen. Out came a guy to warm up that looked familiar, I gave him a go gators and he turned around with a smile on his face. Michael Burns! Of course he went out and shut us down.
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect, and 2023 first round draft pick, Hurston Waldrep has entered Baseball America’s top 100 prospect list. The right-hander out of the University of Florida debuted at Double-A Mississippi in his last outing. After drafting the 6’2” Georgia-native, Braves assistant director of amateur scouting Ronit Shah told the media that Atlanta thinks highly of the pitcher who they followed since his time as a high schooler in Thomaston, Ga. “He’s been 95 to 99 with two plus breaking balls and one of the best secondary pitches in the draft perhaps with his splitter,” said Shah during his time with the media. “We think it’s an out pitch and has a chance to miss a lot of bats at the big league level.
