They would lie because they didn't' want to be identified, probably for immigration reasons, and lies about their ages because minors are treated differently and might not be arrested at all if it came to that. The cops found no reason to arrest anyone and sent them on their way 3 years ago. Now it's being revamped for political purposes ...

No bringing him home was for political purposes. Pulling up records on what he should have been sent home for 3 or 4 years ago is what they are doing now you might say to fight the political move since had the court not been playing politics he would still be out of the country.
