It seems to me in casually glancing back at recruting classes over the years and sensing the impact that recruits really actually had on the team, it's the best half-dozen or maybe ten recruits that really end up making a big difference in the class. Depth and balance definitely do have positive impacts, but, it just seems like it's the top half of the class that matters much more than the overall class ranking. The guys at the bottom can be just filler. Again, just a casual observation, no hard data.

Like Clemson’s first couple of teams that made it to the big dance. A few stellar players and the rest good enough to play their role.
Or Auburn with Cam Newton’s team. A few transcendent players amd solid ones everywhere else.

For comparison sake, it kinda DOES mirror Mac's 2016 class. You could say it's probably equal. Class didn't turn out bad if you consider their production the last two years.

Agree with TG - for most seasons. In the year of COVID-19, a bench full of 4-stars with a few 5’s could be a ticket to the playoffs. If the virus hit a team hard, lack of depth at a few key positions could hurt. Even a couple key position coaches testing positive could ruin a season almost as much as the SEC office turning a great schedule into a tough one.

Wow, lots of successful players from the three star ranked kids. 11 of the 16 were highly productive or still contributing on the team.

Crazy when you look at it. Great in identifying talent by Mac, and even greater by the current staff for developing it

I think this year's class combine with last year's class are very capable of winning the SEC. This year's class is not even finish yet.

I know this is off the current subject but it is about recruiting. Is Marshall still committing tomorrow?

Really? You must have skipped some years like 2015 & certainly 2016.

I don't think it's off topic. I read somewhere that he's moving his announcement a few weeks back.

Doesn’t matter how highly ranked our offensive class is. We have Mullen our offense was ten fold better the second he got on campus. Just look at the numbers. They speak for themselves in such a short time.

They're no longer in the upper 90s or over 100s in offense. I think they are around below 40s now. That's a big leap from the previous 8 years before CDM got here.

Yep. He's put us just inside the top third with all manner of non-optimal factors at play.

We'll make a bit of a jump forward this year and by 2021 we'll be locked in as a top 10-20 offense.

I think you might be right with 2015 being an exception. CeCe and Ivey might not have lived up to their full potential, and Cronkrite did get crowded out, but, they did start and Scarlett and Callaway were big contributors when they weren't getting in trouble. I think 2016 does still fit my observations with Cleveland, Hammond, Swain, Gardner, and Franks all being contributors. Clayton and Thompson, maybe not so much.
