That’s what I thought. But some were acting like there was much more.

I see mobile homes on the runway. There are no structures there to contain 3,000 people. More of my tax money being squandered on a culture war while we have outrageous insurance rates, disabled children on waiting lists for years for help, and schools that are overcrowded and under funded.

I assume the mobile homes are for the staff. The prisoners will be in tents, I read. Water in and sewage out will be by truck.

I agree that there should be better uses for that money.

I recall Governor DeSantis saying that all of the tents, trailers, etc., were already owned by the State. I'm sure they had to spend some money to put it up though.

But that is something rather than what you seem to be scratching at?
The foundation is there and I doubt it’s going to be an environmental problem that some are suggesting.

And then operate it?? Doesn't sound humane either. It's a freakin hot box for almost 6 months a year. It's nothing but political theater. DuhSantis wants to run again.

So it will only feel like 85 degrees when you are packed in a cage with a few hundred other people

For 2,000 people? That's a lot of trucks. I don't know exactly what the environmental cost will be, that's what the fine scientists are for. I imagine DeSantis will be ordering an exhaustive environmental impact report on the project any day now.

We all know you will find any reason to complain or express disgust/hatred at Trump and others actually enforcing existing law. Fine, fly your flag and claim moral superiority. Good for you. However, comparing the conditions of this detention center to a concentration camp is despicable. Speak with survivors and families of survivors of actual concentration camps from around the world. Being uncomfortable is not the same as being starved, beaten, exposed to freezing cold, living in one's own waste, etc. Is there not enough decency in you to accept/appreciate the vast difference? But, heck, I've heard they also won't get TV and the meals are not organic. Torture??!? Grow up and get some perspective beyond the faux sanctimony of liberal elites who chant these slogans from their cushy, protected sanctuaries.

I think if you speak with survivors, they would say putting people a racist government labels as undesirable in camps for deportation or worse "looks familiar" and was only the first step to something worse. I mean the Nazis were simply enforcing the Nuremburg Laws after all!

Hmmmm...we sent a bunch of people to this facility who have been convicted of literally no crimes (including immigration violations) based on things like having a tattoo that includes a clock, a train, or a crown. It hits many of the issues in your list.

Reality and sense of decency continue to evade you and md. Clearly, the only point you and md wish to convey is that you are the arbiters of "goodness" in the world and any effort to deal with reality is imperfect, and thus ultimate evil. What happened to the left's appreciation for even "nuance"? By the way, you can save yourself some time and anger by not projecting your own hate. Everyone else is pretty much reasonable and good-hearted, even if they don't join in your chants.

Interesting. So I brought up a real issue, as outlined in court documents: that we have sent people to a prison that regularly does not provide food and engages in torture and other forms of mistreatment that you pointed out as being prevalent in concentration camps (correctly, it should be noted, as those camps were characterized by these forms of mistreatment). And your objection to it is that I am acting as an arbiter of goodness by pointing it out (and, ironically, trying to act as if you are the arbiter of goodness in trying to get people to not point it out). Is the objection really that the facts that you view yourself and, indeed most people, as good and that you want to turn away from CECOT and pretend it isn't happening are causing you cognitive dissonance?

"Concentration camps," are loaded words. Internment camps, maybe?

How did Trump's plan for Gitmo work out? A refurbished Alcatraz as the newest supermax prison? What are the chances that expectations will be met with this new endeavor (boondoggle)?
